Hi Guys,

Long time listener, first time caller!

Last month I was 'fortunate' enough to purchase a 2004 Defender 110 with 85k on the clock from a fella in NSW (I live up in Middlemount, Central QLD). This is my first Defender; not only to own, but to sit in as well! To be honest, I don't mind the 'ol brit, but I do think I have been kicked out of every LC online club in AU! Oh well.

Worry not, my first post does have a point! Part of my 'agreement' with the handbrake was to have the car mechanically checked etc. no problems, and he passed no problems. Now.... have noticed the following; Oil leaking out of rocket cover, cooling system leaking from a few hoses, the transfer cast leaking, squeaking belts, I have just dropped off the car in Mackay to the Land Rover place up there. The very knowledgeable fella there has stated that there was a design fault that causes all 110's to leak at the transfer case, and has suggest an approx. $2500 rebuild using 'glue' to stop the leak?! What are your thoughts?

Do you guys think the above problems, are going to bankrupt me?

Thanks
Rhys.

For that amount I would expect the case sleeved for the inter shaft a new TBD new bearings and seals and an extended sump

I would be surprised if at 85KK that the transfer case hole for the intermediate shaft would need resleeving.

My D2 had a leak there which was wetting the handbrake so I had it done with a new Oring and some epoxy "glue" .

The total cost drive in drive out was $700.
Mine has now done about 40Kk on the repair and it is still oil tight, although I guess at some stage it will leak again and then may need resleeving as the car has now done 190Kk.
So I think the bloke may be having a lend.
