I plan to replace the main & big end bearings on the 2.6 six cylinder engine in the near future and was wondering how easy they are to obtain?
I have heard the bearings were interchangable with a Series I four cylinder Rover engine but I can't remember which. Would this engine have been the early 1.6L or the later 2L?
Are the 2.6L bearings interchangeable with the Rover 3.0L?

Bearings are available but can be a bit hard to track down. I found a set of mains locally but big ends had to come from England.

Thanks Homestar,
Where did you get the big ends from? Cox & Turner seem to be the ones to go for Series I IoE engines Home | Cox & Turner Engineering (https://www.coxandturner.co.uk)

Just by trolling through eBay UK. Found a set - he wouldn’t post OS, but I got them delivered to rellies in England and Mum grabbed them for me on a trip home.
Don’t think I’ve sourced much through any of the major players, just kept my eye out.

Thanks Homestar for your help - much appreciated!
I'll have to take the sump off to see how worn the current shells are.
Intriguingly the engine was replaced 1 year after it was complianced and the REMLR records have the original engine number listed.
Also the fuel tank has a postage label addressed to the Puckapunyal Army camp so its had an interesting past!

really, it's not worth looking for bearings until you know what size bearings you need,
but I would try Repco first.
I recently did my 2a 2 !/4 and Repco supplied them the next day.

The 2.6 bearings aren’t available any more (Tried local, specialist and international sellers) so finding NOS is almost the only way to go. I think standard sizes are pretty common but not many people needing standard sizes any more.

Listed here but you'd need to contact to find availability. Rover | Landrover 95 | 2.6 Litre (2A) Parts List - Precision International (http://www.precisionintl.com/Engine.aspx?ID=1547&EID=4008)
Still available -.030" big end bearings here Land Rover 6 Cylinder(2.6) & Rover P4 P5 Big End Bearings -0.030 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Land-Rover-6-Cylinder-2-6-Rover-P4-P5-Big-End-Bearings-0-030-/253293375032?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10)
Four Wheel Drives (now in Hallam) used to carry them, they got a lot of parts from the early army auctions. Problem is with several changes of ownership recently they wouldn't know what they've got now. If you phone them make it a Mon, Wed or Fri and ask for Murray.
If you approach an engine reconditioner they can often use their supplier network to track them down.
Bearings are the same as the Rover 3litre.
