Pulled into the servo this morning to get fuel and flap won't open.
No amount of pushing/hitting/tapping will make it pop open.
Anyone have any ideas???
It does not have a lever to pull in the cabin, just push the door, and it (should) open!!!
Have I found another Disco foible???
I'm not out of fuel, so it's not urgent, but I would like to get any tips that I can to sort this.
Thanks
Alan

Locking solenoid failed in the locked state? Just a thought

Problem solved! Buggered if I know why it did it. But locking/unlocking via the key/dash switch has it sorted.
I never knew until now that locking the car locked the filler cap.
Crazy thing is that I never lock the car when I get out to fill it up.
Oh well, another "Land Rover thing" to add to the list.

Many cars over the past couple of decades or so do this. My procedure is to exit car, shut drivers door, open fuel cap and lock the car via the remote. Once the car is filled and the flap closed, the car is secure while you go inside and pay.
You'll also note that the tailgate won't open when the D4 is running. I find this annoying if you just want to duck out and pop something in the back whilst idling. There may be a way around this but I haven't bothered to look for it yet.

The car must be in park to open the tailgate.

I had the opposite problem with the fuel filler yesterday. I started filling with the pipe stretched to the limit because of the stupid parking of the car in front. When she finished, I drove the car forward with the flap open and when I went to close it, it wouldn't close. I had to lock and unlock the car to get the fuel filler catch to open to let the door close. It must auto lock when driving, regardless of the car being unlocked still.

Not sure but I understand that leaving your car unlocked whilst you walk away could negate your insurance. From memory, I believe it's mandatory, as in police can give you a fine, in NSW, to lock your car if you leave it - may be wrong though.

I had the same problem at the first fill, couldn't find a lever and only found out you push to open by accident. My car is set to only unlock ds door at first push on fob so I assume it needs 2nd press to open fuel flap.

You can reach the cable that releases the fuel cap lock pin from inside the rear driver side storage. It’s a difficult reach in between the trim and the exterior panel but can be done if the lock solenoid fails.

If in doubt read the handbook [bigsmile1]

Hi Martin, In VIC and QLD you can cop a fine of up to $360 if you dont lock your car and dont have the windows within 50mm of closed and you are more than 3M away from the vehicle.

What if you cannot lock the doors because there are no door locks or indeed may not have doors [thumbsupbig]

LRD414. Hi Scott. I read on your post that you have opened the fuel cap door by reaching the cable inside. How did you actually open it that way? I can see the cable ( after removing the Jack etc) but can't see how to pull the cable. A few years ago I could not get my door to open when at Bourke & Wills roadhouse (clogged with dust?) & ended up breaking the catch.

thanks

I have only got as far as you after mine getting clogged with dust that I managed to clear and subsequently keep clear regularly on outback trips. From what I researched you need to find the end of the outer cable so that you can yank the inner cable to unlock. It’s like a bicycle cable.

Thanks Scott.

Sorry for late reply - been a bit crook.

I had a good look & feel in there & can see the cable but pulling the outer cable had no affect on the door.

I might just try to keep it a bit cleaner on trips.

Were you able to find an inner cable exiting from the outer and heading to the lock? I think it’s very difficult to reach.
