View Full Version : Sunroof Switch Blank in Roof Console

Hi all,
I read in another thread, either here or Disco3, that one of the commonly available brand of switches is a near perfect fit in the sunroof switch cut out.
Problem is I can't now find the thread!

From memory it was Narva or maybe ARB.

I'm looking at options to mount a USB plug and thought that an existing profile would look neater.

Cheers in advance.

But do you want a cable hanging down , if I read that correctly.

I did this. I like that the switches are square & small like the factory light switches but I wish they had a lower profile.
It seemed a reasonable compromise so as to only put holes in the little blanking plate.

I've just fitted a dual usb port in the top glovebox compartment. There's heaps of room behind the LH end cap. Simply piggy back off fuse P52 (20amp) with a 10amp fuse in your new circuit. Use 5mm auto wire. Earth to one of the earthing points in the footwell. All neat and hidden away. You could also do the same in the top shelf, but it would be a bit more fiddly. There's a bit of room behind the rear panel at the left hand end.

Did you take the panel out to do this or insitu?

The end panel has to come off, but it simply pulls away. And the lower glovebox has to be lowered to gain access to the fusebox of course. And the footwell panel needs to be removed to gain access to the earth bolts. But the upper glovebox remains in place. A step drill bit is easiest to use.

No, but I am only starting to look at options and ideas.

One is the trigger for a video signal switcher that swaps between reverse camera and van camera (when it’s connected). The other will be for roof rack worklights when I get to them. My driving light switch is on the side of the steering column.

Thanks for sharing. Any chance of a photo of the finished result? I’m thinking about adding USB plugs for charging various devices - the glove box and next to the middle row cigarette adaptor (behind centre console) are prime candidates.

I like the idea of a USB port in the upper compartment, but...reflecting on earlier posts, unless the item being powered in in the compartment, won't there still be a cable hanging about?
That said, phones, music devices and such can easily be shut away in the compartment, not so dash cams, GPS etc.

Cheers
