The saga continues. The 2nd hand 4HP22 supplied has failed in under 100k. It was driving great. I had to stop for traffic and when I tried to move off it shuddered and then failed to proceed. My first thought was the A clutch, however reverse is fine, so I guess that’s ruled out. Anyone know enough about these to hazard a guess as to what has failed?

Nanocom reports 722 Stall speed monitoring and 705 Position switch monitoring. Doubt if that helps, but there it is.

Thanks, Chris. Seems likely. However, I doubt it's the cause of the problem. It should just go into limp home mode, but I have no forward drive at all.

Have you tried 1, 2 and 3 instead of D to see if you can proceed?

Yep. Many times. At first there was a little motion, enough to get me across 3 lanes of the Monash to the emergency lane. Now there is nothing at all, except reverse which is fine.

Would be worth changing the valve body , if your lucky ( which, lets face it that its about time you were)it might have a bit of crud in one of the ports , can happen with 2 hand hand trans that have been sitting around a while , can be done in car, v8 have the same valve body as well

Thanks. I can't really make it any worse, can I?
I found this excellent tutorial. ZF 4HP22E Valve Body Rebuild (http://twrite.org/shogunnew/files/jason/4HP22EH_ValveBody/4HP22EH-Valvebody.html)
Obviously there are differences, but the job is pretty much the same.
