I’m guessing it’s called the input shaft......it’s the shaft you can inspect when you remove the round cover/inspection plate.

Im booked in to have my Thomas PTO Drive fitted this Friday.

They advised Land Rover stopped getting the spline machined onto the shaft at some stage. They indicated a shaft from an earlier box can be slotted in on the day but pointed out the gear-set wouldn’t be matching and may develop a slight wine.

Anybody know what year the change happened.

Its the input gear, it has teeth on the back of it for the pto chain. Can still get them no worries.

Yep that’s it......

Just wondering if a 2000 Defender would have a shaft with teeth??
