View Full Version : ABS Codes checking / clearing in Adelaide

Hi @ all!

Got the advice to ask here again.

After some time with the 3 Amigos, the Error became permament. Means that the ABS-light stays on after ignition check and then the HDC and TC lights come in addition. Now I made the „Option B“ and checked all 4 ABS-Sensors (1000Ohm).
Guess I have to clear the codes now (maybe hit the magic 256?!).
I‘m in Adelaide in the next few days and looking for a workshop recommendation or (preferred) a member to check/clear the fault codes.

Tried two general workshops on the way but noone had the right interface to access the ABS.

Thanks!
Jan

The lights stay on if the error occurs 20 times. I rest mine with a Nanocom.

down south at TRS, they can isolate the issue, and they have a kit that can sort it. from memroy its a speed sensor or abs modual thats bad.

send me a PM to see if I can help, I am based in the North but am in the south quite a lot.

Maybe interesting for others: PCB charges 100$ to plug the interface in the Disco.
Thanks to steve_a - we will check it tomorrow.

just remember, cleaning the codes wont fix the underlying issue. it will return

I wouldn't charge that much...

Thanks again to steve_a for all the help and hospitality!! We checked / cleared the codes and the amigos were gone. One fault left after testdrivd: Brake light relay short to internal. HDC light came on one time yesterday. And today after a hill descent with break squeal, the amigos are back and permanent. So I think the „break light relay short to internal“ fault came up too often.
Can‘t find anything about this relay, except that it should be the HDC relay as well? Where is this relay and what can I do?

It's a built in microrelay part of the interior fusebox soldered into the PCB, not simply replaceable nor availabte as spare, all you can do is to replace the fusebox

That's a bugger!
These have some information (quality unknown) on some of the codes Disco II ABS Faults (http://www.rswsolutions.com/index.php/discovery-ii-abs-codes)

I actually haven't used HDC, I tend to go low range, manual mode and use the actual gear along with a bit of brake pedal action if really necessary. So, you can still work around it, but probably not quite as good without the central diff lock.

You *may* get some luck with the relay issue if you can find the right bloke who can fix it. Chances are the relay is a mosfet or other common item and can be replaced on the board. Of course knowing which one is the dodgy one could be the issue. I've never looked at the D2 internal fuse board (fingers crossed), Rave and tracing circuits might point out which one.

EDIT
Looking at the circuit diagrams and R222 on passenger compartment fuse box/panel is the one. Though you'd need to buzz out the tracks and the output (GREEN/black) which goes to the 3 rear lamps and the trailer socket. It could be a short in the wiring back to the lamps.
I think it's probably going to be a short on the wiring if I had to put a quick bet, but finding it will be fun.
Pull the wire off that feeds out that signal and check your brake lights still work normally, if they do then leave off and try HDC again (if you can....) it may be a running fault for the relay registering open circuit since it only turns the brake lamps on and off. If you want to get really clever, put a load resistor on it to make it think the lights are attached :)

1. The information for te brake light relay fault in that link is mostly correct except the wire colours for the connector's pins cos it's BG not GY (provided RAVE is not wrong)

2. The output(which is Green/purple) has nothing to do with the fault cos only the coil is monitored by the ECU, if it was a short to ground on the output the fuse should have blown... so it's C0586 - 13 BG wire or at the ECU C0506 - 12 (hardwired between these)

Unfortunately there's quite a mess in the diagrams too cos the same relay appears as R222(HDC relay) in then ABS diagrams and R204(Brake light relay) in the engine management with output from C0586 -16 at ABS and C0588 -16 at EMS in > 03 version and C0588 -16 for both in < 03 so it's hard to troubleshoot like this

IMO at the price of a good SH fusebox it doesn't worth the hassle to trace tracks within it but it's good to check the wiring to not be a short there

Thanks for these very good informations! I’ll check that soon. Btw I figured out that the traction control seems to work anyway. At least I heard and felt the ABS working on slippery ground. But the Amigos are not as bad as the Auto transmission atm (new thread) :no2:

There are default modes which can retain functions and the Brake lamp/HDC relay fault is one of them
