TD5 Motor, cold Motor??

Noticed on my recent trip that on cold mornings/weather (single figure temps) it didn’t want to warm up. I had to run a gear lower for a long period of time to get the engine temp up.......mainly to get some benefit from the heater.

Silly me didn’t think to plug the Nanocom in to get actual temps.

Soooo, are the a cold running motor or do I need to investigate a bit more.

Mine in city traffic takes for ever to heat up .
On the open road it warms up in no time .
I think it all depends on driving circumstances [wink11]
I would say in the bush it would take a while to warm up unless you are working it hard ect low range steep climbing for a while[thumbsupbig]

I live in the country and owned my td5 ute from new (1999) and drive the same route most days. In the summer it takes around 3kms on a windy dirt road at 50kph for the temp to start rising. In the winter when it can get to -5 it can take as far as 5kms to start to move and upto 6kms to start to feel any heat. Its no different now from when it was new. :-)

Just check the connection of the connector on the sensor before you do anything else.

The Nanocom also runs off the sensor so if the connection is dirty it will read low.
It's pretty common and happened to me.

It is on the housing where the top radiator hose leaves the engine.
It has an injector connector, so just squeeze the little metal bar and pull it off, spray it with some electronics cleaner and click on and off the connection a few times.
