hi folks. cut a long story short. bought a D2 td5 from deceased estate.
sold for parts as it had been cooked by the kids. top end beyond repair.
currently awaiting delivery of an engine i bought from Dazza of aztec 4x4 in w.a.
apart from all the other stuff i have to do , pre new engine, i decided to check out the fuel pump yesterday.
while turning over the origional motor it was making horrible noises.
removed it and look what i found. !!

blocked fuel filter is the main cause , usually ( but not always ) combined with low fuel levels ( which makes the return fuel hot )

Just replace the pump assembly with a new VDO and it will be good for about another 10 years.
Yes engine should be just about there, will chase it up Monday.
I always recommend changing fuel filter every 10K service.

Daz, do you and Revy have any preferences re the fuel filter on the TD5?
I've only entertained Mahle, Mann and genuine so far, and interestingly one repairer I picked some bits up from recently will only use genuine.
I would've thought Mahle and Mann would be ok too?

The only one I stopped using many many years ago was COPPER, as they seem to have this habit of blowing the bleed screw off.
So yes, Mahle, Mann, Baldwin, Genuine, and I've got some Bearmach ones that are made by Mahle.

Yep, Mann, Mahle and genuine , I've also used Filtron (wix) , may or may not have had trouble with a COPPER for many years[bigwhistle]

I'm sure some people on here will have old fuel pumps lying around, that you could use the hoses from, possibly a "wanted" ad is all that is required. I used Coopers on my D2 TD 5 without bleed screw trouble, and only stopped using them as they don't seem to be bio-diesel compatible.

hello randlover.
thanks for comment.
i've come across a few old posts about fuel line.
FHIT8 is the type of submersable hose.
5/16 is the internal diam.
must be rated R10 ( SAE 30R10 ).
regards "wanted " add, its a thought, but i would imagine that most of the "2nd hand " tubing would be just that ! "2nd hand ". haven't found any new ribbed pipe on internet yet.
i think the pipe becomes brittle with age . haven't tried to remove my pipe yet.
will try hot air gun and see what happens.

just for the record.
found the correct fuel line to replace blown out one with.
140612
memory says it was about $25 for 30cm.
most good auto parts will get it in if they dont have it in stock.
