I’m up for a battery and was just wondering what size battery’s people are using in the stock battery mounting

Not 100% sure on an S1 but something around an N70 if it fits, an N50 if it’s smaller than S2’s and S3’s.

Must admit I thought the same.

N70ZZ fits 86" Series I through to Series III.

I got a proper Rubber case battery, with exposed cell connectors & pitch top made for mine from Ariel Batteris , Clifton Hill .

Was about 30 years ago but I'm sure they still make them.

I just use a early model Holden Commodore battery fits easy, cheap to buy and starts it easy. Got to remember with these bigger batteries if you are running the original genny unless you drive for hours will never get charged properly and they are heavy and cost more.

I don't understand why a larger battery takes longer to charge than a small one if it has had exactly the same current draw (starting & running). If it was flat then I'd agree.

I've been using the correct size batteries on vehicles with infrequent use and they hold up OK. Normally 4-5 years in the Defender then move to another Land Rover and get another 2-4 years.
