Well worth a visit if you are in the area, got to sit in the captain's seat. Lots of interesting stuff jammed in a small museum. we spent about an hour an a half there.

Ten days to fly from Rose Bay to Southhampton. At least you knew you were traveling a long way.

What is an old QANTAS plane doing over there? Shouldn't it be here?

It's ex-Ansett. I was there a few years back. The photo of it landing at Lord Howe was taken by a friend here in western Sydney.

The plane that had me drooling was the beautiful Supermarine S6 seaplane (same as the Schneider Trophy winner) - you can see it in the bottom RH corner of the second pic above.

I'll add a pic later when I get to my PC

And here's me thinking the TEAL Sunderlands were sold to QANTAS. Apparrently, this one wasn't.

This is where they used to land at Lord Howe. (My photo)
The lagoon, not the runway :)

FIL used to fly that on the LHI route.

LHI doesn't look like a good place to undershoot or overshoot the runway....[bigwhistle]

I was very nervous when we came in to land on that runway. I can also advise that taking off is an interesting experience.

Especially when both windsocks are pointing at one another. Was always quite limiting out of there, so a standing start/full power takeoff was the norm.

North Head (I think) positioning for RWY28 :)

About 52 years ago at the age of 10 I landed on the lagoon in one of those...it might have even been her. My grandmother took me to Lord Howe for a holiday.

Two years ago I went again....this time with my two sons.

It's a pretty special place and there are memorable experiences that go with it.
