As part of all that other stuff that we won't talk about I also had the timing belt done on the 300tdi.

Sam gave me a whole boxful of exciting stuff, including the old timing belt.

I'm happy either way, peace of mind is what matters, and when everything else was out, doing the timing belt was a drop in the ocean.

But, I thought I'd take a few pix and let you folks tell me how stuffed or unstuffed it was. Turns out the photos were much harder to take than I thought. The belt had threads coming off on one side and the teeth were starting to look a bit scuffed and mildly chewed on the outer edges - from the LR, not from the test team. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Oooh..300tdis...timing belts. Makes me appreciate the raucous carcophony from my old 200tdi.

hey simon....that belt dont look too bad.....
just check the new one in a few thousand kms....(if its easy to get to)...
just to be sure its fitted correctly......

the used belt is always good to carry as a spare for trips.....
however..if a new belt is only around the thirty dollar mark....
(probably not for a land rover).....its better to carry a new one....

Yeah, I was thinking about keeping it.

Then I thought that if the old one snapped the LR wouldn't be going anywhere soon. Is this not the case?

Cheers
Simon.

you may not use it as a timing belt.....

when you break down in the bush...you will be surprised what uses you find for different things....

Not a good look.

The modification kit was fitted at the same time as this belt was changed.

I just hope they were aware of the changed torque setting prescribed otherwise I might be photographing a strap next time.
