Long way from Victoria?
Also, I wouldn't buy a manual, even if it does have all the other fruit on it

It left the factory as a commercial vehicle minus the middle and 3rd row seats hence why its a manual, i dont believe a manual was offered in non commercial vehicles post D3.

I like manuals. I’ve only ever had manuals. I looked for a manual D3 at first but everything was auto so that’s what I got. I don’t regret it at all. Rock crawl without having to modulate the clutch. No gear changes on your run up the Nkgala Rocks bypass and if you do sports shift is so much quicker with less chance of bogging down. I’m not an auto convert. My next road car will be a manual. But for an off-road vehicle it makes so much sense.

Exactly - you want a little red sports car, then the manual makes sense. Buy a 3t truck, and Auto all the way. Otherwise, you're just a dinosaur [tonguewink]

Replace the dash with a metric one. My UK import manual D3 has a dual speedo, but the odo is in miles. Takes a bit of getting used to as the IID reports faults in KM.
the trip computer can be switched as a preference though.

I never thought I'd buy D4 as they are only auto out here. I prefer the manual, hence the D2. For a personal import you have to own the car for 12 months. I like the idea of driving to Singapore and then a ship to Darwin.

There shouldn’t be any need to replace the speedo. My 2010 which I brought with me from the uk when we moved here, has a digital display for speed (as well as analogue) which can be changed from miles to kms via the menu. This also changes the odometer and fuel consumption readings to Aussie friendly versions as well. You still have the analogue speedo in mph of course.
Regarding the manual gearbox. When I was looking to buy, the concensus appeared to be that they went through clutches very quickly, but that may just be internet hearsay (which I’m now passing on!).

They do have a relatively small clutch for the amount of torque they can create. I can't see it being a long term problem for me, but I tend to cringe/wince when I'm in the car with someone else driving.

You can’t bring it in as mentioned because you cannot parallel import. The exception is if you have legitimately owned it for lever twelve months. I have personal experience importing under this legislation. They will want to see your proof of registration and ownership in that country, plus proof of being there including passport verification etc. It even went down including all holidays etc out of the country. While it’s possible to fake it, it’s not easy.
The only argument you might have is if this is truly a different model e.g. commercial as discussed, you might get around it arguing that version is different enough and not sold here, that it qualifies for import.

Where else in the world did LR sell a TDV6 with a manual?
is it the same box as the Defender?
same ratios's?
I'd love the defer box in my D2,,,

Beats me. I never paid much attention to the specific ratios. I just hooked up the van and took it for a spin to see if it did what I wanted it to do.
I learned to drive in mums car which was a 78 2 door Rangie with the 3.5L V8 and 4 speed box.
She moved from that to the Diesel D1 with the 5 speed box. They had that until it sheared a crank pulley pin in about 2009.
When we went looking for a new (er) disco, my wife wanted a manual and I wasn't about to argue. She also hated the D1 (as it handled a bit like a ferry), and the D2 was tarred with the same brush, so the D3 it was. I'm told there are not many manuals around. We test drove a lot of D3 autos, but the manual appealed (plus it was cheaper as most guys couldn't convince their wives to drive a manual). Never thought a car with a manual box would be hard to sell, but apparently it was.
1st is pretty short, and 2nd is pretty tall. The rest are what they are. My last 6 speed manual was an Audi TT, and I liked that so the idea of a 6 speed manual Disco appealed.

I thought they used the same MT82 as the deefer but I have seen reference to a ZF 6spd box.

Bugger! Why are they such pains in the bum? Proof of being in the country? The old two passport trick? Although it is all computerised and photo’d and all.

There were quite a few TDV6's sold in manual guise - UK, Africa, Australia. Also, if you can stick a TDV6 into a D1, then a D2 shouldn't really be a problem.....

That's true, not many came over, but they do pop up for sale on a regular basis. These two D3 manuals are currently on carsales and both have terrain response. I have seen others with coils and manual transmission too. Unlike Africa or the UK, I'd be surprised if we got few if any of the D4 manuals or the D4 coiler versions in Australia.

No manual or coil D4 came here, I'd bet most manual D3's were private imports.

D4 coilers were made for the African market. I doubt any made it to Australia. As for the D3 manuals, whether they were factory ordered or private import I don't know. I've seen both coiler and air sprung manuals for sale in Perth so there must be a few around.
