I'm wondering if I can afford to lose it? It's in a pig of a place to get at and just can't get mechanical tightening on my own.

I've no idea if the loss of this one (clearly not doing a proper job as it currently looks) is going to be problem? Location is down low, front passenger side, look in behind the wheel. Unthreading itself back out towards the rear.

Exactly - when that bolt was installed at the factory it would have had that blue locking agent on the thread - with the bolt being undone/coming undone a few times I guess the original locking agent has long lost its usefulness. I would use a strong grade locktite and it should be OK.

loctite 680, loctig, migloc, or replace it with a serrated flange bolt with no washer.

Strongest loctite and a spring washer. If it does it again, the welder!
