Gday All,

Been getting the dreaded P0048 fault ,( Low fuel rail pressure or something to that effect ), only faults when the car is just coasting along usually at the speed limit. Everything I have read points to a HPFP issue , so decided to see if it would fault when it gets given some more eratic style driving , nothing outragous but a change from its normal life , bugger me it hasnt thrown the fault in 2 days. may be coincidence but doesnt seem so.

It makes me wonder what it is in the fuel pump that faults when the car is basically just coasting along with no load ,but yet put the boot into the loud peddle and the thing just responds and performs like nothing is wrong.

Cheers Ean

Could have been a sticky valve in the pump that's now had a cleaning.

They say--
Premium Diesel is just normal stuff with add-ons like injection cleaners,,,
speaking of Italian Tune-ups...
can you actually flog a diesel?
bit like a dead horse?

as i recall you have something much nicer to flog Ean,,,[bigwhistle]

Ean its an interesting subject. Note the tacho has no redline marked and the engine will happily rev out 4000-5000rpm.

Like you I doddle around <3000 but very occasionally hold down the gears going up a hill to rev it out under load.

I assume there is no red line marked because the computer limits it?

I reckon with ~195kW and 650Nm of torque with twin turbo we can have some fun. I give it a bootful quite often and I love the look on people's faces when it takes off like a scalded cat.

Gday Eevo,

The old filter had 8100kms on it and yes I have fitted a new filter ,but am pretty confident it wouldn't be the filter. I would have thought a blocked filter would have worked the opposite way, causing issue when you put the boot in , not just cruising along

Its interesting that everything I have read on here and the Disco 3 UK site suggests that people just change the HPFP without any form of finding the main issue even if the fault is inside the pump itself. I guess you need to remove the pump anyway even if you were going to strip it down for repairs , so it would come down to the difference in cost between a new pump and the old pump repairs , as removal and install cost would remain constant.

I have been using sport mode for few weeks and usually boot it up to the speed limit, definitely makes it more fun and does surprise other road users and probably gives the cats a clean out.

Love to know logic of having no redline mark on the tacho? First car I’ve ever seen without.

They rev like a petrol something you would never believe could be possible judging by diesels of even 20 years ago.

i had the same code on my TDV8 and changing the fuel filter fixed it.
but if you changed it, its probably not that.
