hey

busted the driver side cv over the weekend, long story.

my mate said i could get it rebuilt or an exchange, i figured seeming i have fitted maxi drive axles to the rear i might do the some for the front as i assuming the maxi drive cv's would be beefed up more the standard ones. please advise

CV's and stub axles are a good fuse and much cheaper then gboxs.... uni's are a pita to change out in the bush..... it all depends what driving you are doing....

im not into the real tough stuff, i normally engage the lockers so that i can just cruise up hills and elimate wheel spin and look after the drive train i.e. i don't have to jump on the gas. will ring around for prices tomorrow.

Weeds -- I think Maxi just recommends fitting the County 110 CVs which are much stronger than the Defenders (Part No: AEU2522).

Drive line services in brizzie do a reco 110 cv which is well priced, I have used them with comp trucks have never broken one, plenty of diffs though. The maxi drive units I think are genuine rover items.

Maxi Drives should be stronger but be warned.... You may well just end up breaking the next weak point in the drive train (which is what Mick was saying). It's a lot easier dealing with a busted CV rather than a busted gearbox!!!

The CV that you busted... Was it a Genuine one or an after market one? If it was an after market one then get yourself a genuine parts one. (The Genuine ones are usually a bit stronger than the after market ones.)

Mark.

Just read your comments about how you broke it... https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

One thing I will say, you're better off engaging the rear locker first and then only engaging the front in extreme conditons. Your drive train will feel much better for it... https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

just rang driveline services and they do not have a listing for 110 cv's, they said if i wanted i could bring in the bits and pieces they would have a look.

best price i have so far is $350 new / $175 second hand

apparently the county cv may not be as good these days as GKN no longer make them

AEU2522 CVs are the upgrade to do, but they will not just fit straight in to your front. The axle end of your current CVs are small 32spline, the AEU2522s are larger 23spline, so you will need to replace both axles to do the job. There are also a couple of spacer bushes required for your setup, all of which Maxidrive sell. You do not need to replace the drive members on the front if yours are in good condition. I replaced mine with the Maxi units, but it was an extra $286 cost.

Best advice is to ring Mal at Maxidrive, he's great to talk to and will steer you in the right direction.
