Discovery 3 front axle vibration on load i.e while accelerating

Hi All

another ongoing issue i have is a vibration which feels on the left hand side front - it is while it is accelerating first vibration is at 40 kph which is slight then it comes in again at 80 kph starting to last into the 90 kph when it its warm i.e over couple of hours on the road


the other funny thing is its not noticeable on small journeys

Typically tyre/wheel combo but your explanation isn’t completely aligned. If it’s not wheel balance or cold tyre flats spots (tyres flat spot when left overnight. They round out as they warm up). The other check would be of the wheel bearing on the left. Raise wheel off the ground and try and move the wheel onwards and outwards from the top/bottom.

Left bearing was checked same time the right one was shot we shall look at this though

Ok been a few weeks and have been trying a few things, Brand new rotors were put on the front, wheel balance and rotation now progressed to my of a vibration at 40kph 80kph with I kinda grip grip not a gradual power through the drivetrain and steering wheel vibration on quick highway braking

Front differential bearing failure is common.

Don't rule out the other wheel bearing. My front left was very slightly noisy for about 3000km but had zero play. After that it got more obvious after a bunch of water crossings and then I noticed just a tiny bit of play. But very very slight and I could have easily not spotted it. Then still did another 4000km on it before replacing just recently. Even finally in the end the play was still minimal. Probably gambled on it a bit too long in hindsight....wont do that again.

My symptoms were a little like yours....sort of...I'd get a vibration/drone around 40kmph and then again 60kmph through to 70kmph. Didn't matter if accelerating or decelerating or coasting in neutral. The vibration was not through the steering and more generally through the floor.

I don't know much about diffs, but I guess a bearing on the output shaft might mimick similar to a wheel bearing.

Bit further on a few mechanics have jumped in and have said its not the Bearings as this is only there as its powering up in speed and not on deceleration it seems to be going through the body and seems quite central to the car.

The tail shaft was replaced due to the chuckle wasn't running smoothly and centre bearing seal coming apart

Nope though the knuckle would fail eventually any thoughts were thinking drive shafts or front prop shaft
