Hi folks.. bidded on and won a Rangerover Sport TDV8 on graysonline... was a bit of a impulse click..

Its the 3.6l V8 with about 180,000k on the clock. I hope its ok mechanically! My winning bid was $12.6k + 7%.

I've got a quote to transport it to Darwin from a depot at Seven Emus (its in Arndell Park Sydney) to the Darwin depot for just under $1500.

Just wondering how I'm going to get it to the depot etc.. I don't even know if it drives. I'm wondering if a forum member lives nearby Arndell Park and would be able to look at it for me? I'd naturally pay for their time and fuel etc. Any other suggestions on how I should go about this? Haven't bought a car thousands of km away in an auction before!

Perhaps I should just ring Grays tomorrow and they might tell me if it drives or not? I'm not sure if they would say over the phone. Apparently its got to be out of their yard next week sometime. Maybe they offer a service to drive it to a depot? I guess they'd get all sorts of interstate buyers...

I'd need to organise permits and insurance also.

Any general comments on this model and what to look out for (although its too late lol) most welcome also.. don't know much about them. Was more in the market for a D3 or a 2.7l RRS (which I understand is pretty much a D3?) but this came up at what seemed a good price.. and I tow a 2.5t van a bit and a 3.5t excavator so thought the extra torque might be handy...

Definetly a good price. Tray top to depot?

Ask Graysonline if they have a tame tow truck driver, or just ring around and get the best quote from some towies.

Try Shaws Darwin Transport. They may not have car transporters though.

I could drive it to Darwin. [bigwhistle]

My son is leaving Sydney and needs to be in Darwin by the 18th May.....need a co-driver Ron?

Although $1500 sounds pretty good deal.

PrixCar Transport brought my 08 L320 from Perth to central Vic door to door for about half that last year. But you'd expect that run to be a bit cheaper. I can recommend them. Very good. Might be worth a call?

I rang Grays this morning and they suggested Prixcar also.. so I rang them and they'll look after everything for nearly $1900.. as long as the car is driveable they say. Hopefully its good - this is it here - https://www.graysonline.com/lot/0001-10015342/motor-vehiclesmotor-cycles/2007-land-rover-range-rover-sport-tdv8-turbo-diesel-automatic-wagon'redirect=0

The listing seems to show a photo of it idling without warning lights on dash..

But it is cheap.. maybe a blown turbo or something?

Sorry guys wanting a trip to Darwin - I would've considered that if you were fair dinkum! :) I just looked back at forum now and have paid the mob.. although it is only a $100 cancellation fee!

You can ship a car door to door half way around the world for not a whole lot more.

Hey folks.. they picked it up the other day and emailed a report to me that it was driveable etc.. which was a relief.. but prixcar have just rang me to say its leaking coolant and this must be fixed before they can transport it :( Its in their Minto yard in Sydney. Does anyone know of a mechanic they'd suggest that might be able to take a look for me? Or any mechanically minded folks here nearby that could? Would pay for your time.. bit tricky being in Darwin!

KLR (who normally do Perenties) regularly pickup stuff from Minto... It might be worth asking them if they would look at it.

Cheers,
GG.

I can only think of three reasons it would leak coolant on the ground:
1. The lid for the tank is off or not properly tightened;
2. The tank has been over filled; or
3. Split tank or pipe somewhere.

But from what I’ve read split pipe or tank is not common.

I've had to do a couple of thermostat housings on the 3.6, but hopefully as above

Cheers mate - is that a big job on this model? I found a mobile mechanic who is going to take a look for me on Tuesday.

Yep, fair bit more involved than the coolant outlet on the tdv6 , part not too expensive ( $150-200 ) labour from 4-6 hours depending if mech has done one before.
