Interested in conditions and lifestyle mainly as I already know about the money 8) 8)
Plus this city life is becoming less and less attractive https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I'm not a miner, but I quite like the Isa. I go out there from time to time for work (repair pathology instruments) and I like the place. If you like the country and smallish towns, go for it. Make a few friends and it'll feel like home in no time. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

seqfisho,
The Bowen basin is not a bad place to live. If you are thinking about living in one of the mining towns the extremes of temperature can be a little hard to get used to. The temperature varies from high 40's in summer to as low as 3 degrees in winter.
Most people living in the smaller towns travel into either Mackay or Rockhampton for shopping or fishing.
Let me know if you want to know any more about the area.

I did 3 1/2 years in Kal, (on the surface). Its a great place. I miss WA and don't actually know why we came back to QLD. Guess it seemed like a good idea at the time.
As can be seen from the Beaconsfield incident, the smaller communities stick together.

How does a guy get into the mining industry with no qualifications?
I've wanted to work in the mining industry for ages now, just never knew what the first step was...

Timberwolfs question.?
If you havent got a mec/elec trade you can start buy getting a Markstar ticket, do a forklift,hiab/dogman/crane ticket, put your name down at labour hire companies as a TA and pass a **** test your on your way. Once you get your foot in the door on a shut dowwn or subcontracted project your in!!!

Plenty of work in WA. All depends on what you want to do. BHPBilliton are not bad to work for and offer opportunities all over Australia.
