Hi Guys,

Chasing a noise in my steering column. Its a low pitch rattle, the car is well maintained, 175kms, new struts compressor LCA etc a year ago.

Recently inspected and specialist couldn't find anything wrong with it. Although this noise is only heard when you hit a speed bump etc, at low speed. I can feel it through the column...been here for about 2 months :(

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Have you checked the power steering fluid level? It gets pretty dirty, a full flush and top up with new fluid might make a difference. Otherwise it could be the steeringbox itself, especially if you're getting shudder through the column.

A uni joint in the lower steering column is known to fail/seize, Disco3 thread linked below:
DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Steering stiff - New lower column fitted with guide (https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/steering-stiff-new-lower-column-fitted-with-guide-56798.html)

Other possibility would be tie rods ends.

Cheers,
