Hi, I have been restoring my 1990 Range Rover Classic with a 3.9V8 EFI. While tracing some wiring going to the coil (http://i.viglink.com/?key=e84f810ecf8d0bfd68aef28116a4cb36&insertId=53f89a92b9afdc6f&type=CD&exp=60%3ACI1C55A%3A19&libId=jxvbe49a01000egp000DAk6jqmv8k&loc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rangerovers.net%2Fforum%2F8-range-rover-classic%2F336862-ecu-speed-signal-resistor-ohms.html&v=1&iid=53f89a92b9afdc6f&opt=true&out=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%2Fref%3Dnb_sb _noss%3Furl%3Dsearch-alias%253Dautomotive%26field-keywords%3Dcoil&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rangerovers.net%2Fforum%2Fse arch.php%3Fsearchid%3D46254918%26pp%3D%26page%3D2&title=ECU%20speed%20signal%20resistor%20ohms&txt=%3Cspan%3Ecoil%3C%2Fspan%3E), I came across a resistor that is wired into into the feed to the ECU (input 39) as engine (http://i.viglink.com/?key=e84f810ecf8d0bfd68aef28116a4cb36&insertId=dc1921fd9de6ffae&type=CD&exp=60%3ACI1C55A%3A19&libId=jxvbe49a01000egp000DAk6jqmv8k&loc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rangerovers.net%2Fforum%2F8-range-rover-classic%2F336862-ecu-speed-signal-resistor-ohms.html&v=1&iid=dc1921fd9de6ffae&opt=true&out=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%2Fref%3Dnb_sb _noss%3Furl%3Dsearch-alias%253Dautomotive%26field-keywords%3Dengine&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rangerovers.net%2Fforum%2Fse arch.php%3Fsearchid%3D46254918%26pp%3D%26page%3D2&title=ECU%20speed%20signal%20resistor%20ohms&txt=%3Cspan%3Eengine%3C%2Fspan%3E) speed signal from the negative terminal on the coil. The specifications state that it is a 6.8K ohm resistor (http://i.viglink.com/?key=e84f810ecf8d0bfd68aef28116a4cb36&insertId=3ef81beb548cf704&type=H&exp=60%3ACI1C55A%3A19&libId=jxvbe49a01000egp000DAk6jqmv8k&loc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rangerovers.net%2Fforum%2F8-range-rover-classic%2F336862-ecu-speed-signal-resistor-ohms.html&v=1&iid=3ef81beb548cf704&opt=true&out=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fdp%2FB07RKWGFXZ&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rangerovers.net%2Fforum%2Fse arch.php%3Fsearchid%3D46254918%26pp%3D%26page%3D2&title=ECU%20speed%20signal%20resistor%20ohms&txt=%3Cspan%3E6%3C%2Fspan%3E%3Cspan%3E.%3C%2Fspan% 3E%3Cspan%3E8K%20%3C%2Fspan%3E%3Cspan%3Eohm%20%3C% 2Fspan%3E%3Cspan%3Eresistor%3C%2Fspan%3E). Mine is reading 7.42K ohms.
Does anyone know what effect if any this would have on the ECU?

Cheers
Geoff

it's within a 10% tolerance for a 6.8KΩ resistor.

the actual resistance of a 6.8kΩ ± 10% resistor will have its value as being read somewhere between 6.12kΩ and 7.48kΩ.
