Hi Andrew

I tried ordering that one from megasquirt last year and got no response from numerous requests. They seem to be closed to attend various shows a lot of the time. I ended up buying something similar and cheaper locally, search this on eBay “Windscreen Washer Jets Universal Conversion Kit ( bonnet/scuttle to Wiper Arms)”

It works well and even if you carry the spare on the bonnet which can sometimes disrupt the airflow and washers.

Cheers - Simon

I seem to remember Britpart offering them, but I could be wrong.

Rather than buy the kit of parts you can get the nozzles direct from China.

I saw them listed in the optional equipment catalogue for a 2a in the mid sixties!

You can use the flexible tube and fittings sold at Bunnings for garden dripper systems to plumb the system. Cheap and as they are designed to be used outdoors the UV doesn't worry them either.

I did that mod on my series 3 in the 80's.

I think it lasted a year

I made my own version that looks similar to that setup, but I used 4mm brass tube from a modelling supplies shop for the spray rails, and uv stabilised black irrigation tubing. It goes very well, but I've been thinking of putting more holes in the rails. I might have to supercharge the little pump if I go overboard with the holes though.

I’m sure our Peugeot 405 had them.

Surely there must be another option that doesn't involve the complexity of this mod; but is better than the Land Rover OEM solution (if solution is a word that can be used :D )

Maybe some different sprayer which can be fitted in place of the defender one ?

You could always attach a tube/pipe with a series of appropriately spaced holes across the top of your windscreen and let it 'rain' down your windscreen. You'd probably need to connect it to a higher capacity pump and a larger water reservoir than the standard washer setup. Alternatively, just use your shower pump and 40 litre water tank.

A fellow hydrographer did just as outlined above on his F100 work truck and found it very successful in dealing with the mud and dust of western NSW.

haha a land rover 'waterfall' mod ?
That'd certainly let more water in the gap in the rubber screen surround my defender 'features' ... :D

A (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3xklklq9)bout $85 landed here in Aus.

Too many moving parts / susceptible to damage, thats why I think there must be another better solution.

is there no way the standard washer jets can just be made better ?!

Have you investigated a higher output pump?

We went with upgraded nozzles in factory location and they work brilliantly.

Is the pump upgrade required??

We didn’t do it and it works much better than stock.
I’d assume with the pump upgrade it would be even better again.

I wonder if you could give the factory nozzle a bit of a massage with a sharp nail to close off the opening a bit?

Tombie

The Billet units have a fan type spray, drilling the stock one out would just result in a single broader stream

I was thinking more of using a sharp nail (like a concrete nail) to pinch off the stock opening slightly by taping the outside o fthe hole. It would be hit and miss but may work.

Give it a go. At worst it will need replacing.
