What size motor is that? That thing will fly!

Wow, that motor is huge. I expect this to be one of the few Defenders with the ability to smoke up all four wheels. Would love to see the specs.

Well, that's awesome.
As many battery packs as it may have, with that mtor they won't last all that long I'll bet :) Not a real issue in Germany as never far from somewhere to charge up.
Here in Aussie-land, not so much.

Can picture tootling around the glasshouse mtns in that :)

Does it really need a gearbox and TC with that big engine ? Engine/dynamic/regenerative braking should be pretty good.

The CSIRO developed a really trick, high speed and very efficient brushless DC motor about 10-15 years ago.
It's used in large chiller systems (AC systems that chill water as a secondary refrigerant)

Unfortunately the tech was sold off shore, along with the electro magnetic bearing (oil-less) 2 stage centrifugal compressor it drives.


Motor speeds up to 30,000RPM IIRC [emoji50]

What sort or rev range do the Tesla motors operate in?

You need 6000 NM at the wheel to climb a vertical obstacle , I only have a 150 Nm motor but have 6500 in Low 1st

Lets say that monster motor is 600Nm x diff 3.54 = 2124 not enough , x Low range transfer case 3.32 = 7051 , yep dont need the gearbox but does need the TC .

Tesla motors max at 18,000 RPM , the Model S has a 9.73:1 reduction . Max torque from zero RPM


as an asides The HPEVS AC51 motor in my Landy is good to 10,000RPM but the flywheel is not, I tried it up to 7500RPM (scary) but now have it limited in software to 6000RPM. Its happy at 100kph in top gear - 4070RPM . 3rd gear at 100kph is 6000 RPM and you really do want to reach for the gearstick for no reason other than to quieten the gear noise.

Not really I don’t think but you’d have to find or build something to split the drivetrain front and rear, so using the existing box and TC simplifies the installation I should think. GB should be able to answer that with certainty as he’s kept the box and TC in his.
