Anthony did you check the wiper relay ? The BCU will cut power to your wipers if the blades become stuck, a relay fault might be tripping the BCU ?

Have you had the car scanned for faults?

Anthony - I had a similar problem with my 2003 L322 after I replaced the battery. Turns out the bcm had defaulted back to delivery or transport mode which (for some unknown reason) prevents the rear wiper and tailgate from working, as well as the front interior light and a couple of other things I don’t recall.
It was an easy fix with the GAP diagnostic tool if you have one? I’m sure your local dealer could also do it (for a price), but don’t let them tell you you need a new bcm.
Might be worth looking into.

Might be a long shot but, the wiring harness sometimes moves and gets squashed by the rear seat frame on the RHS near the shock mount. This has caused multiple types of problems and error codes in the past !
