Hi all

I am replacing the original hinge bolts on my ‘96 300Tdi with torx headed stainless steel ones.

I am having a bit of trouble getting some of them out but soaking in ‘deep creep’ and using a rattle gun helps. However one of rear side door bottom hinge bolts was particularly tough to remove and stripped the thread on the nut plate.

I taped the nut with an M8 1.25 pitch but it is not correct! I can’t find anything on what the pitch should be.

Does anyone know what the correct thread pitch is? I might be better just replacing the nut plate...

Cheers - Simon

Get someone with a thread gauge to match the thread in tpi . Doubtful it is metric.

I suspect these may be one of the parts inherited ultimately from the Series 2, in which case they will be 5/16 UNF.

Thanks John

I think you are correct, it appears to be 5/16 UNF. I have a UNF tap and die set filed away somewhere so I shall give that a go..
