Hi All,
Needing to replace the entire LH mirror assembly on the chariot, I've reached a decision point.
One second hand assembly tends to be priced $250-$350, whereas it appears I can purchase a pair of something like this for $300-$400.

I do tow a van, and being able to fold them in is also attractive as I 4wd.
Does anyone care to share any experiences with this type of product? Good or Bad?
Cheers

I decided against as they stick out more than the originals when closed - not so hot for tight spots, but if that is not an issue for you go for it. Having said that they are a bit trucklike.

I needed to replace the driver's side of mine three years ago and ended up with a second hand unit at the lower end of what you quote.
Part of the reason for staying genuine was because my research told me that any after market unit (at that time) was not compatible with the HSE memory seat (and mirrors) plugs. Hence it may be that you will need to adjust then manually.

My old man has a set on his LC200, and aside from making it look like Prince Charles when they are "in" and Dumbo when they are "out", I reckon they are great. I haven't towed his van with them (mine is a lot smaller) but his LC didn't have auto-folding mirrors anyway, so they do everything the originals did and the extra convex at the bottom is pretty swish.
I have seriously considered a set for the D3, but again my van is a lot smaller and for what we do the clip-ons are fine (and I already own them).

These guys sell an alternative MSA 4X4’s NEW Driving Mirrors Built for Work & Play! - MSA 4X4 Accessories (https://msa4x4.com.au/msa-4x4s-new-driving-mirrors-built-for-work-play/) which removes to some extent the "Prince Charles" effect. Haven't checked compatibility though.

I recently got a set when I bought my boat. Not pretty but work great. Have not been off-roading with them yet. The small mirrors on the bottom a great for watching the trailer wheels. Haven’t tried, but have heard you can angle them down so you can see the vehicles rear wheels. If so, should help with wheel placement off-road as long as I don’t wipe them off on a tree.

Ok, I've acquired a set of clearview mirrors and as mentioned earlier, the connections and connectors are different.
This is itself doesn't worry me as I am able change the plugs.
What I can't locate is the wiring diagram for the mirror circuits for a 2005/6 D3 HSE!
There are two connectors. I assume one is for the power fold (which I don't have) and the other is probs for the mirror adjust.
That said, there are no less than 9 wires in the two plugs!
The clearview have indicators and my old ones didn't so I'll need to sort that as well.
Cheers in advance,
Ralph

The extra plug may be for heated mirrors. I seem to recall when I replaced 1 a few years ago there was a plug for mirror heaters.
Cant help with the rest of the wires.

This might help for the indicators from PowerfulUK You are being redirected... (https://www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/land-rover/discovery-3/mirrors-covers/land-rover-discovery-3-mirror-covers-with-led-indicator-welcome-light-black.html)
There are 3 wires on the item :-
BLACK - this is the Earth wire ( -VE ) - this connects to the BLACK wire on the side repeater in the door
GREEN - this is the wire to illuminate the INDICATOR LED ( orange ) - this connects to the green+white wire on the side repeater in the door.
WHITE - this is the wire to illuminate the WELCOME LED ( white ) - this connects to the purple wire on the welcome light at the bottom of the interior card.

Ok. For the reasonable sum of $20 per side plus postage, Clearview sent me the adapter harness for the D3, as the mirrors came off a Rangie/D4 which have different plugs. So all fitted now.
They do power adjust manually, but haven't checked whether they adjust with the memory seats although I suspect they won't as they don't angle down in reverse either. If I get the time and inclination, I'll sus out why this is so.
They take some getting used to!
Because they are wider, the mirror surface is out further from the car as well as a further rearward than standard. The result is that one has to turn ones head further or glance a bit further than before.
Also, I'm getting used to the width and amd still wary of narrow parks and roads lol.
The split mirrors work though as the bottom convex portion is great for lower down wide view and the large top portion is .......large!
The mirrors I've purchased are fitted with LED indicators with clear lens so I am looking forward to wiring them in which shouldn't be to hard as I'll piggy back off the door indicators!
The yin to the yang is that when driving at night and a car is behind you, there is no escaping the headlight glare! As the mirror is so large, one can't simply move ones head out of the reflection!
All in all, I may have traded off the memory and reverse downwards functions but will gain indicators. As we intend to tow our van more regularly and they were excellent condition for cheap, I'm happy.
Pic is from web for comparison and is not my car, but is same colour and same mirrors without indicators.

I only tow a camper trailer so was not worried about the width/size of my mirrors when I was offered a set of these. They should serve you well. Regarding the headlights of following cars at night - that's a good reason to park the van and stay off the road. [wink11]
