View Full Version : Air suspension slow leak

Hi All. My 2014 1/2 RRS loses height in the front left while parked overnight.
On start-up the compressor kicks in and I get movement akin to the raising of the Titanic while it gathers up it's skirts.
I suspect a slow leak in a valve block or bag.
Has anyone had this issue, and what was the solution?

Been there,mine(D4)was the corner valve,four years ago,and it’s now doing it again.[bigsad]

Tape with packaging tape from guard to rim,disconnect battery,or leave drivers door open,or pull fuse under bonnet for EAS,and leave vehicle on level ground overnight.

I can’t remember what fuse it is under the bonnet.

But doing the above will stop the vehicle relevelling,and will give you an idea where the issue is.

If only one corner drops,maybe a bag,then you need to leak test with soapy water.If both fronts drop,could be corner valve.Even one corner dropping could be corner valve as well.

Good luck,it can be a guessing game,but needs sorting or the air compresser will wear itself out prematurely.

It’s a pity someone doesn’t have a dye that could be put in the system to locate leaks.

Spray the soapy water on the nut at the top of the air-spring, under the bonnet. If no leak there then put vehicle into off-road height, detach the top of the gaitor and slide it down as far as it will go then spray what you can of the air-spring. Next would be to check the front valve block for leaking externally, appearing to be located under the guard liner behind the back of the front right wheel.

Tks Graeme. Just checked this and there is a very small leak at the top of the air spring where the pressure line goes in. It’s minute, but overnight would probably account for the drop. Off to the Indie on Wed for them to look at a solution.

The leak is at the back of the nut. I’ve checked and it is tight. May need re-doing the fitting.

So, all sorted. The fitting at the top had a very minute air leak which allowed the air spring to evacuate overnight. New fitting assembly with feed hose sent up from Melbourne has sorted it.
Now waiting for a replacement auxiliary battery to sort the start-stop system and all the niggly things will be solved.

My issue was a tiny hole in the right front bag.

Corner valve was good this time.

One would think they would last longer than 8yrs and 85K,but obviously not.

Have your front spring/shock assemblies been replaced due to leaking shocks, a common fault with early vehicles? If so then perhaps a new air fitting wasn't installed at the time.

Hi Nessie,
if it is a diesel, I would recommend leaving the the stop-start disconnected. Whenever I start my car, the first thing I do us push the button to deactivate it. (just my opinion, but I think the stop-start was invented to lower headline fuel consumption / CO2 figures at the expense of longevity of the engine components and DPF)
