You wouldn't read about it!

Earlier today I decided to list my old Laptop on ebay...got a shiney new one... so thought I'd flog the old one to feed my Landrover habit.

Anyway...listed it here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6886671739&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&rd=1

Put a buy now price on it as well as a starting bid.

Just now I decide to take a look and see if anyone has bid... Bugger me it's sold!:D

Then a read the email....the buyer sent..

"

Sent eBay an email.... hope I don't have to pay for the ad that generated that crap....:eek:

I feel better now........ thanks for listening!

No, you're welcome.

Just wait til you get my bill for the therapy !

On the good news side, I just sold some Phantom stuff on Ebay, made $25 on something 'her indoors' would otherwise have thrown out, and nobody has asked me to send it to Nigeria.

There must some wealthy buggers in Nigeria hey!
There always offering me good jobs, a percentage of other people's money, and some friends of the King and Presidents son are always wanting to put money in my bank account!!!

The last P76 I sold I put on the net and in Unique Cars, whilst I had calls from all over OZ, and eventually sold it to a guy in Vic., I had "someone" from Nigeria, offering to pay USD $10,000 + transport. He said he was a collector and would deposit the funds into my account, prior to me even doing anything.
What a great bloke. I strung him out for about 3 weeks, everyday he was onto me about my bank details, before I told him where to go, by
questioning his lineage and asking him about his relationships with goats.

If they put the money into your account in advance via paypal or direct deposit then who gives a toss where they want it sent. Matt

So why didn't you just invoice him & wait a week or so for payment through Paypal? It's always worth a try, and rule one is you don't send the item till payment has been received so what have you got to lose? I don't see how they could take money OFF you through Paypal when you are the one issuing the invoice and Paypal only operates using email addresses which they know from Ebay anyway (no account numbers). It's not like the scams where they ask for your bank account details and as long as you change your password occasionally and keep it fairly random...

I often toy with the idea of opening an empty bank account to try it on with these dodgy Nigerian scam artists since I heard a story of a guy who actually got money out of one of them. Not the 25% of the millions of dollars they were proposing, but a few bucks just for his "costs". It actually worked, they sent the setup costs (presumably to lure him further) and then never followed through. They might have tried but found the bank account he setup was bone dry.

The problem with Paypal is though the money goes into your account, and you send the goods, the scammer buyer can 'reverse' the payment via Paypal as well after you have shipped the goods. Paypal won't refund it because it was the 'buyers' money to begin with.
The other trick is fake cheques, where they appear to clear at first, then a month or so later the bank says it is fake. By this stage you have sent the 'difference' between what the goods sold for and the Cheques value back to the scammer. Happy scammer, unhappy seller!

:( And I'm still waiting for a Chic from the Ivory Coast to arrive, but then again I didn't help out with her ticket of $395.00 she needed.
So my poor little Princess is not going to come see her Sweet Prince after all.
How many people fall for this, makes me wonder.
Very cute photo's of her, but I bet it was some fat old bloke sending all those emails, but I knew from the start that it was a scam and it took 2 weeks and 9 emails to get to the "Need money", sent back it was going to take at least 2 weeks to get it together (just for fun), then no more emails...."SUCKED IN"

Well I sent ebay an email last night... and now his username is deregistered... :p

But I guess he will be back with two or three other usernames by now....

.. not really a huge deal.. Just last night I was tired and these guys are a real pain in the @r$e.

It is scarey though how many people do fall for this crap. As stated above even if you wait for a cheque or go through an escrow company (like paypal) it is likely to go pear shaped...

That is why I specified pickup only - if I don't see the cash... The item stays here..... not that I'm an untrusting sole or anything:huh:

The cash from that laptop will be straight into my suspension..... so I can't risk a problem:p

I told of a scam just like this in UK some time ago and got flamed for my trouble.
The next step is that they will tell you of some problem with Paypal and ask to send you a bank cheque which will be bigger than the amount for the car/laptop etc usually by $5000 for example.
You are then supposed to send them the change by Western Union or similar, usually a big amount.
Then you bank the "bank" cheque and several days later it is dishonoured because even bank cheques have to be cleared.
Simple eh?

You wouldn't read about it..... for those I entertained with my previous eBay dealings.... please read on...

I thought things were sorted... and relisted the laptop.

Well I got a buyer this morning... He is in perth... or so he says...

Call me a skeptic but...

1. The winning bidder has an email address ayo_r1@racemail.com - same domain as my Nigerian scammer on the previous auction - X_98@racemail.com

2. He won the bid at 6:44.21 AEST on a "BUY NOW" - yet also won another auction for a different Laptop on "BUY NOW" at 6:44.30 AEST.. 9 seconds after mine!!... it says he is in Perth... that means he did 2 "BUY NOW" transactions on Laptops in 9 seconds at 3.44 in the morning Perth time..... possible but rather odd.

3. He was given positive feedback on this second Auction by the seller (who has no feedback) - less than 3 hours after the auction closed - even though the auction was in Brisbane and the buyer in Perth. - remember it is still only 6.30 am in Perth

4. I also note that the winning bidder now shows as "not a registered user"

I may be being overly suspicious... but I really don't think so.

The eBay fraud guys were excellent last time... lets see how they go with this one..

and Yes I will try 1 more time.... but they can shove the BUY NOW idea where the sun don't shine:spudnikshooter:

Mark:huh:

P.S. INC.... your not planning an IT section in the markets are you..... I'd make a good customer!

Just what you need. I'm currently in a dispute with the buyer of my merc. He won 11 days ago. I sent him the details and contact numbers if he prefered. He mailed back with a mobile number saying I hadto ring him. Rang him and its not convenient so he was supposed to ring back that evening. Sent him another message saying make contact by friday or negative feedback will be left. Still nothing.

So now he has negative feedback and I started a dispute complaint and still nothing.
Be dambed if I want to sell him such a bargain anymore. All he had to do was email me to say he's having problems and I would have waited
Sorry rant over now.

The other thing that is SO annoying is 'second chance' offers.

On the June long weekend I unfortunately dropped my digital SLR and lens approx 12 feet onto concrete; camera and lens both unrepairable, $2000.00 lost in a split second (no insurance). :o

I have placed a few bids on cameras on eBay, and lost, but have been bombarded with emails from all over the world offering a 'second chance' offer. These bottom feeders pretend they are acting on instructions from eBay and all they want to do is scam people. At the last count I had 32 second chance offers; all of which were sent via email to eBay security.

It makes is unpleasant to try and buy anything from eBay.

Rant over

I recently sold some stuff on ebay and eBay generated this link on My eBay:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/06/13.jpg3 items (http://my.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyeBay&LogUID=p38arover&CurrentPage=MyeBaySold&Sold.Filter=SoldEligibleForSco&ssPageName=STRK:ME:RMDR:SCO:SLD) I sold are eligible for Second Chance Offers.

Why?

Ron

George130
26th June 2006, 06:20 PM
The second chance is for selling multiple items the same as you just sold or for offering the next highest bidder the item in cases like mine. Still no reply so lets hope he is stupid enough to not reply before friday and then I can wreck the car and get more for the parts. Glad I didn't include the gas setup.

Brother, you have copped it both times. Usually these things happen to me, but I have bought two Laptops off the net,- I would only pick them up from the buyer, after all, there are plenty to chose from,- and have got a goodie both times- one is purring away in the Landie as a GPS screen.
Hope you have better luck 3rd time.

Subject: NOTIFICATION OF FUND RELEASE!!! ACT FAST

Dear Sir/Ma,
I am contacting you based on the recent development in my working place in couple of months ago.I am Dr Mallam Ibrahim of the federal republic of nigeria. I am the committee chairman on contract awards, and my committee awarded a contract to a foreign firm for the construction of federal roads,at the tone of $400,000,00.Four Hundred Million United States Dollars Only. However, I deliberately over invoiced this contract with the sum of$25,000,000.00.twenty five Million United States Dollars only. The contractors have completed the project and also received their basic contract payment. But, what is left now with our federal reserve bank is the sum of $25 million which I intentionally over invoiced. I cannot claim this fund due to my position in the civil service. It will implicate me if I present myself to claim it and that is why I have decided to contact you in order to assist me to perfect this plan.
If you are willing to assist me ,please do well to ackknowledge the receipt of this letter immediately. The terms of percentage will be discussed,as soon as you forward your reply indicating your willingness to work with me. Some of the items I will need from you are as follows:
Your banking details where the funds will be transferred.
Your telephone/fax numbers,and compmany address(if any).
You are rest assured that this is 100%risk free as my lawyer will provide all the legitimate documents that will cover up all the traces.
I will await for your urgent reply.

NOTE: i will want you to reply me back to this email address as my private and home email i use dr_ibrahim05@yahoo.com (http://by104fd.bay104.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/compose'mailto=1&msg=F6CBBCCE-23A5-4228-8150-74FBD13632A3&start=0&len=6707&src=&type=x&to=dr_ibrahim05@yahoo.com&cc=&bcc=&subject=&body=&curmbox=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&a=453da0782b653bb1b922d41f559ea186f8fc033b79d24dcf 4015cd3fb0f0727e)

I dont understand how an account can be cleaned out if the account number is known - plenty of businesses here in Aus provide their account/BSB details for payment of bills, I have been paid on ebay many times by providing my account details.

duff
26th July 2006, 08:55 PM
 I am also now confused and a little worried. I thought BSB/account number/account name could only receive money,,,not give money:confused:

****e, I reckon there must be about forty people that have my details out there:( :o.

I need someone to explain how they draw out with only those details.......and type slowly.

Bytemrk
26th July 2006, 09:24 PM
Don't stress guys... with simply your account number and BSB they can do nothing...

If you are dumb enough to give away your netbanking passwords... well then you have a problem...

The way these scams above work - they send you a bank cheque drawn on a foreign bank. they tell you to pay it into your account.... and then send them back say 60% of it... the rest being your fee for helping them.

Of course a Bank cheque here .. is as good as cash - BUT a bank cheque drawn on a foreign bank can take weeks to clear and CAN ( and will) bounce.

So some rather gullible soles... have in the past. taken these cheques "cashed" them... sent half the money back overseas.. then had the original bounce...:spudnikshooter:.

So as long as you take the attitude everything you get from any one you don't know.. and everything you see on the net is SUS.... your safe:p

I have a better Idea, give them Ace's account number and if the money turns up and his is still in there earning heaps of interest rather then in Nigeria buying goats or guns or whatever they do with it over there, he can then spend it on to you........Good Idea hey! :D
