Alloy wheels on early Rangie

Anyone know what the difference is between alloy and non alloy type hubs?
I have a 2 door that came with 3 spoke alloy wheels but no marking on the end of the studs, the wheels appear to fit just fine but I think I will take them off as I don't know what the issue may be, could it be the lenght of the studs?

What do you mean by "no marking on the end of the studs"?

I am not aware of any difference between hubs for factory fit alloy or steel wheels.

The manual states only hubs with a I or V marking on the end of the studs are suitable for alloy wheels, but no mention of a reason for this!

I haven't checked recently but I believe the alloy studs are longer.

Early hubs are ever so slightly larger in diameter and make for a really tight fit with standard alloys, a little emery or a buzz with a die grinder soon fixes it but, I know nothing about stud lengths being an issue?

As previously mentioned.... If the studs have a marking stamped into them, they are suitable for the factory fit alloy wheels.

Now I recall, the studs are designed to just come to the end of the nut for a steel wheel, presumably so that the end does not rust etc.
When I put Disco wheels on my 92 which came with alloys, the thread stuck out about 4MM.
So if you put alloys on the short stud you do not get full thread engagement in the nuts.

Mark was right and it is the signs on the end of the wheel stud that idicats if they are ok for Alloys
But saying that i put a set of alloys on a 71 2 door i owned and they were fine. Just had to check that they were tight now and again. As they did have a habit of coming a bit lose over time
