Try pulling apart and cleaning all the connectors, alot of carpet fluff etc over 18 years can eventually get in the plugs ! Also try moving the seat back and forth to see if that triggers the light. Wiring might be getting rubbed/caught near the seat rails.

I had the light come on in my MY08. The IID Tool identified the fault was the seatbelt pretensioner. It was caused when the seat was moved, and was a wire going into the pretensioner. I zip tied it secure so it didn’t move which fixed the fault.

Back to the little red man he does not show up with driver only but soon as my wife sits in the passenger seat hello red man maybe I will ask the wife to sit in the back
I think I will keep on looking for the fault
Any more help would be appreciated

I’m thinking it might be caused by movement of the seatbelt stalk. Maybe move and resecure the wire into the seatbelt stork pretensioner.

I have checked the seat belt con seems all ok
With the car running if l sit in the passenger side it takes about 6sec for red man to light up

Do you have an IID tool?

Usually on later cars there is a sensor in the seatbelt which advises when the seatbelt is connected.
If someone sits in the seat and the seatbelt is not connected the warning light shows.
I know if I put something on the seat of my Jazz that the light illuminates.
This needs a pressure sensor in the seat base and a sensor in the belt.
if the belt sensor was crook then what you describe would happen.
I don't know whether this applies to your older car.
It could be that the pretensioner has gone out of resistance spec and needs replacing . If the pretensioner is the same as a D2 it has a set resistance which is read by the BCU.

I can't figure out the trigger for the light to activate as sometimes even after red man has come on with both of us in the car we can be driving along and red man will go away
I wish he would stay away

Mine used to do the same but never got around to looking at it - was only with a passenger - which was never me so I didn’t worry about it... [emoji56]

I have the same problem but just to confuse me my red man also stays on sometimes after the passenger leaves. My cheap scantool tells me it is a high resistance of the occupation switch for the passenger seat this would make me think it is most likely a dirty plug under the seat. I need to fix it for a RWC (pm me if you have know a bloke to do it) so will post photos of the fix in the next few weeks. (unless someone pms me about a bloke)
