View Full Version : 2016 Headlights not working

Hi All, my headlights are starting to fail and I suspect the indicator stalk is on the way out. The main (high) beam works when flicked but the normal beam Is being temperamental.
I can hear the relays working so reckon it’s time for a new switch. Can anyone advise on the correct part number for a 2016 model (With ESC)? - I read/heard that the indicator stalk changed when the stability control was added?
Also, what’s the best option to stop this happening again? Relayed headlight loom or LEDs?
Thanks,
Darren

...Prolly both. Relayed loom in any event as first priority, as the way of stopping the switch death.

Your headlight switch has probably melted, especially if you've been towing at night. Pull the switch out and check the back it. If that's it, replace it and fit a relay to the loom. Or fit Taxide's headlight loom upgrade.

Best fit Traxide’s loom upgrade. It works a treat.

Thanks Don, why does towing at night make a difference? Extra load through the switch? I got an ARB bull bar fitted 6 months ago with indicator lights that make the car think it’s towing all the time so wonder if that’s part of the cause.

Thanks for the loom recommendations, I’ve got on of Tim’s SC80s and have been considering the loom for a while. My main problem looks to be the stability control as it means a different switch assembly is required ($80 vs $700!!).
I will take off the steering wheel on the weekend and see if the switch (not housing) can be swapped out.https://www.aulro.com/mobile-gallery/6e2c3376b3b14d87f38a34c167dc764b.jpg

That is the system picking up the extra resistance of the globes in the bullbar, and thinking it is the trailer globes. Replace the globes in the bullbar with LEDs and the problem is fixed.

*Most last model Defender (2007 on wards) that I have had in with the no headlight etc issues its been the indicator assembly has broken.
*Two little claws by the stalk break off as does the little plastic bits close by.
*Often the indicators dont cancel.
*LR060124 is the last model Defender with stability control (well its fitted, just dont bet ya life on it).
*Its now round $500 and its available as OEM.
*XPB101290 is the one thats been used for 50 million years and is round $40.
*Its the main bracket that hold everything which is different and the centre plastic hub.
*I have already tried to swap over a indicator stalk from a early one but broke it (oh well down $40, will try again later).
*You need to engage the centre hub, the pivot pin for the stalk and get the 2 little claws to catch over the bracket, while also trying not to loose the tiny springs and the plastic ends.

Legend, thanks Dazza.
Sounds like you need to be a contortionist to swap the stalks! I think I’ll go for the proper part and at least have some spare switches.
BTW, I know the DSC does something cause it gives me the sh?!s in sand so I turn it off!
Funnily enough, after mucking around with relays and having a sticky at the existing bracket and switches the lights worked fine today?!?
Thanks,
Darren
