Hi All
New to the forum
I own a 2015/16 Defender 110

About 8months ago I had a clutch failure on the road
As I was out of warranty I had a mate replace the clutch assembly and all seemed well.
I was however unable to get any drive , just a metal on metal grinding sound when the gear was engaged

Due to a lack of time and other priorities I had to let the vehicle site for a while
ive since had my mechanic mate further investigate and he thinks it’s a shaft issue as seen in the pics

could someone help ID the part for me
and 2) if there is an after market product available or if it’s recommended to go genuine
And if so where I would go to source the part

Is this a common issue ? Or is there more underlying damage I need to be looking for
and lastly should the vehicle go to someone who is a LR specialist
(My mate is more of a new car mechanic )

Any assistance will be appreciate so I can get the beast back on the road again

Well known problem...

Best options are Ashcroft or LOF

I believe it is a common issue (I don't have a Puma, so I have not paid attention too much) and there should be no other damage than the two parts that mesh. Try a search (both this site and elsewhere) on Landrover Puma adapter shaft. I suspect the clutch replaced was perfectly OK!

Seeing a Landrover specialis (not a dealer) would probably be worthwhile.

Ashcroft also do an upgraded slave cylinder.
If you kept the old clutch I cut the drive spline out of it and welded to a piece of flat bar and used this to mechanically lock the gearbox while fitting the adapter shaft.

As Tombie said, unfortunately its a common issue with the Pumas with the MT82 6 speed box....my output shaft was no where near as bad, but I replaced with the Ashcrofts kit...Ashcroft Transmissions (https://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/mt82-output-shaft-kit.html)

There's also an instructional video from LOF on how to fit their output shaft....LOF EXTREMEspec MT82 fitting video - YouTube (https://youtu.be/PUOTxhU9E94)

I recently heard LOF shaft from their YouTube channel, but can't find any reviews of this product. Has anyone fitted lof shaft?

You can deal directly with Ashcroft 's in the UK, they have good shipping rates and ship quickly. I guess the rona might be stuffing up international shipping currently though.
Having dealt with this failure on my own and a friend's vehicle and having used the Ashcroft kit, I must say the one-piece shaft from LOF looks like an excellent solution.

And whilst ordering from LOF get the clutch peddle spring and a few other goodies and change the feel of the vehicle to drive!

I'm trying to order LOF clutches at the moment, 4 weeks no parts, only just had a reply via email. Until I get replies and orders in a timely manner I'm not recommending them.

Remember. You’re an unknown on the opposite side of the planet. Their domestic market is sucking up everything they produce currently, so don’t expect to be a priority.

Single online purchases go through quickly.
