View Full Version : D2 key fobs - where are you buying them from these days

I searched and found some older threads, but nothing recent.
Usual issue of rubber bits falling out of the key fob. I bought a couple of bare fobs from eBay last year but they were rubbish. Rubber was too hard to be able to actually make the switches inside work and the seals were a poor fit.

Anyone have a current recommendation on where to buy something reasonable aftermarket, or is it one of those things where the only decent option is to go genuine?

Thanks Tommo - I'll have a crack at one of those for a start.

If anyone else has a different recommendation I'm still keen to hear.

I tried a couple, and they were rubbish. Are they ALL rubbish? Possibly not, I don't know. But I chose instead to buy one of these. They don't say Land Rover, but they DO say Valeo. Get it cut, or swap the blade, and then all you need is a Nanocom.

I got mine from Karcraft Australia.
Okay, it did cost a tad more than the common ebay offerings... but hey! you get what you pay for don't you.
I've had it 8 or 9 years ago now ,and it's still working perfectly

Arrived today. Quality seems pretty good. Says Valeo on the back - but who knows...
The transponder bit from my old key clipped on nicely and the buttons work fine.
Not sure if the black tape over the unlock button is meant to be removed but since the buttons work with it on I’ll leave it there to fall off by itself.

Looks real enough. Pull the tape off. Who knows, it might say MG, or Jaguar, or Aston Martin. Valeo are the OEM for these. If it's 433Hz and it works then good news.

I also just bought a blank empty Valeo fob from ebay. You can swap the electronics and the blade across.

What's the trick with the blade? I have one that is loose.

I'm pretty sure it just pulled out. If its loose, as they go, it may need to be glued.

I bought 2 of this on eBay and found they are sort of modern rubbish because of some reasons: 1. Poor design with loose cover parts. 2. You have to use extra glue to stick cover parts together, no matter how you want to use it or how careful you assemble the parts. 3. The blade is not 100% fit, so you feel tight all times (i don't use the blade to start car anyway, only use fob to open/close the car).

Only positive point is it looks quite modern, shorter and not pointing the sharp head to my $@# when staying in my pocket :Dhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210226/6884f933b33ae3565afb0c72173e94aa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210226/ea64b302a43a14464ea7fdc45ec3ae7d.jpg

I got brave and pulled off the tape - and you’re 100% correct :)

RE the blade being loose - yes, they just push in. There is a small plastic boss that fits over the end of the blade and then they both push into the case.
For the price of these Valeo empty cases if the first try at gluing it doesn’t work I’d just replace the case.
They come with a blank blade and the plastic part that slides over it so you can just reuse your old blade and electronic bits.
