I've had the same thing and it was the loom from the XYZ switch being abraded where it crosses the transmission. The "P" clip that is supposed to hold it (the loom) in place had carved through the insulation.

Will give the converter a workout tomorrow getting home.

Can those wires be reached from the bottom. Or better to remove the consul

Remove the console. There are 13 rivets to drill out (and replace) and be careful of a couple of sharp edges that are waiting for you. You shouldn't lose too much knuckle skin.

So made it the 150 odd kms home this morning with the lights gone and everything working as it should.I had cleared the fault yesterday afternoon last thing, fired it up this morning and drove it home, think i will start with a fluid level check first incase but if there is no leaks it cant be low[perhaps] leaning towards the wires instead of the xyz switch at this stage as the last 30 kms with the fault was pretty rough corrugations so possibly shook the wires into the right place, If the wires that were shorting suddenly were not shorting would of the M&S lights etc gone out or only when the fault was cleared.

Mine is doing this. Corrugations or speed humps will set it off. It usually clears itself after a restart.

Guess yours may be worse. I can go for days, but then it will do it a few times in succession. I just put a trans in mine and I think I disturbed it. But the point is it will clear itself until it shorts again. It's a straightforward if inconvenient fix. It's on my list, but you sound like you need to do it sooner rather than later.

...If the wires that were shorting suddenly were not shorting would of the M&S lights etc gone out or only when the fault was cleared.the M&S lights will show up only when the fault is present while the codes will stay stored in the memory untill you erase it

The auto loom can be removed without taking out the console.... disconnect from XYZ switch and auto connection then route back above the box to p clip/then floor grommet where you can then remove the heat wrap and check for wire rub??
bit of a pita and must have flexible hands.... another option to drilling out all the rivets etc

well that job done although no rubbed through wires but can see were it does rub so reinforced that area, seems to be working normal at the moment so will wait and see what happens.one bonus is that i finally have the 4wd lever working freely with a bit of lube.and no blood this time.

Good to hear. Another possible culprit is water from the A/C drain getting into the XYZ switch itself. There's a mod on here somewhere to fix that.
