RAVE isn't particularly helpful here, or I'm not reading it right. So, as I believe that there is no such thing as a silly question, I'm going to ask one. Can a badly adjusted XYZ allow all functions but still engage the T/C interlock? Car went into low range two days ago but refuses to do so now.

Apologies. I'm still relearning the car.

I dont think anything interferes with the transfer case gear selection. But they do go into low range far easier when they're rolling just a little bit.

Neither are related to one another.

Are you trying to static move it? Or just rolling a little at the time?
It will be an adjustment.

That's the issue. It went in fine, as it always did, so I know the shaft probably isn't seized, but there is an interlock function. I remember it from before. Park or neutral or no low range.. I had it in low the other day to use HDC to shake up the shuttle valves....

Now the lever will not move.. I'll get there.

RAVE is so LONG.. I found it today, now I can only find some bizarre Japanese reference.

Guess I'm answering my own question. Adjust the XYZ correctly and see what's what.

There is no interlock.

The reason only P or N is that then there is no power through the gearbox which preloads the TC gears and stops range selection.
The selection of high or low range is entirely mechanical through the shifter.

Personally I'd agree, but RAVE does not. An interlock solenoid exists. Whether it exists on my car is something I'll have to investigate, but my question pertained to why I cannot now engage either neutral or low range today when I could two days ago. I was never able to engage the T/C previously unless the car was in Park, and maybe ( memory is not perfect ) Neutral.

I'll report back.

I'm pretty sure the only interlock is on the US delivered vehicles that doesn't allow you to take it out of P unless your foot is on the brake.

The High / Low selector is a simple mechanical lever and a push/pull cable connected to the stub on the TC.

If it isn’t moving freely then it’s likely it needs lubrication or has something stuck at the TC end.

Not uncommon if not used for some time.

There are NO interlocks on AU versions.

Thanks everyone, I'll go back to the drawing board. It's nuts though, it's been working just fine and now it ain't. Just when I thought i'd spent enough time under the thing[bigsad]

try reversing a bit too.
When I bought my D1 some years ago, previous owner (of 3 years) never used TC at all.
On a side track, I pulled up, tried to select diff lock and low range. Diff lock eventually came on, but took a long time to get into low range.
Eventually I reversed just a meter or so, back in neutral and it slotted in perfectly, under pressure on the lever of course.

But like others have said .. just a teeny amount of motion, (in either direction) may help.

Turns out the CDL hadn't fully disengaged, causing wind up. Still got a bit of adjusting to do...[bigsad]

To vie. Are you going to reply to my message to you about Disco parts?
