A Tesla Mod3 drive came home today. I have to stop bagging Mr Musk now I suppose [biggrin] Not mine yet I volunteered to add a wall charger to our Solar PV..... Suspect Landrover will have a few EV sooner than later so thread may be of interest to others beside the amazingly cool home build guru we all know.

Excuse me if this is of no interest. My EV skates for towing may need hydrogen or the solid state batteries we will see in a few years perhaps.

Added a EO Mini Pro. Max out at 7Kwh charge which is at least 3+ times faster than the wall plug item that came with my wife's car.

Like everything best laid plan get [bigwhistle] I measured the front of the garage and allowed a 5m cable to reach the front both sides of the double garage. My helpful sparky pointed to the back of the garage with a sub board and Yep. The cable is about 1m short for the job. Happily that can stay in my car and a slightly longer cable is on its way.

Sparky was a bit worried the 35amp line might be stretched if hot water heat pumps and the EV charger went on at the same time. He added AMP limiter set at 25 amps.

A little set up hassle had EO Tech support from the UK call and help me. A hour of laughs honestly late last night due to the time zones. The EO Mini Pro has a build in adjustable amp setting item in side. I was offered a 22Kwh 3 phase charger. Stupid me did not recall the sparky added three lines to the garage 4 years ago during a refit- Whoops

It all just works happily. Scheduled to late night or sunny day charging now.

I'm no expert with these matters, but I do have an unhealthy interest in the RRP's (representative regional price) of the various states in the NEM.

If you're charging from the grid and being charged in real time price (if that is possible) in spring / early summer you'd be hooked up from 1400 to 1530 ish when the spot price is often negative in Vic and SA. Sun is out and wind is blowing.

The gloss on 'old school' off peak pricing looks to be fading due to the uptake of split cycle units due to the increase in gas prices and the big cost of hooking gas up to new homes.

Yes, the other point about off peak is if you have solar its better to charge and move consumption loads to during the day when the solar can do the charging without drawing from the grid.
