I'm in the process of putting my Defender onto the Club Permit system and on the application form it asks for Tare and Manufacturer GVM/GCM.

I Googled and found a Kerb Weight of 3,650lb and max payload of 2,443lb
This makes the Tare 1,655kg and the GVM 2,763kg
I'm sure towing is 3,500kg so GCM is 6,263kg although maybe take off 350kg for the towball weight ???

I've found different figures to the above, can anyone confirm the figures ?

Maybe I'm overthinking it and should try leaving that part blank on the form ?

I conducted a few searches and I found various kerb weights between 1870kg and 2050kg and GVM between 2850kg and 3050kg.

It is interesting that a few sites show the 200tdi with a lower kerb weight and greater GVM but show the 300tdi with higher kerb weight and lower GVM.

The differences in kerb weight could be due to different definitions of kerb weight. eg: no fuel and no driver versus full tank of fuel and 75kg driver. I believe Australia uses the later definition. Towing was consistent at 3500kg.

Many thanks for that.
I also found varying figures but they all seem close.
I'm heading to VicRoads this morning, I'll leave that section empty and see how I go but have some figures handy.

I don't know about the Defender, but the earlier 110 the numbers vary with the body type, trim, and engine, as well as suspension (but there were fewer variables for the Defender).

When I put the Perentie on historic plates I left Tare weight blank and took the GVM off the compliance plate.
Vicroads were fine with that.

Hi,
The owner manual for my 95, lists 110 GVM at
3050kg for non levelled and
2950kg for levelled suspension.
It list towing at
750 kg unbraked,
3500kg overun brakes and
4000kg for 4 wheeled trailer with coupled brakes.

My 130 has a plate on the brake booster that lists,
3500kg, this is the GVM on a 130
7000kg
1580kg, this is the front axle weight on a 130.
2200kg this is the rear axle weight on a 130.

I assume the 7000kg is the GCM.

Tony

Edit
My workshop manual lists the same gross weights plus EEC kerb weight.
110 station wagon 2018kg
County station wagon 2054.
EEC kerb weight = unladen weight + full fuel + 75 kg driver

A few things to note. The Hayman reece tow bar is rated to 4000kg but only has a 170kg tow ball weight rating. assuming 10% tow ball weight, equates to 1.7T trailer on a standard 50mm tow ball. to get 4000kg tow rating need to use a pintle hook or some other coupling that is rated to 4T. Not really an issue as most if not all caravans at that weight use rated tow couplings and doubt the old box trailer is going to be happy with 1.7T on the back. a boat on the other hand. i'm sure there are some boats that would tip the scales over 1.7T on a standard tow ball coupling.

off topic -

I engineered my 130 GVM to 3850kg and 7350kg GCM. Engineer was prepared to sign off on +15% on the rear axle rating and +10% on the front axle rating. I'm running air suspension but i'm sure a set of HD coils will get you there too. You also need rims and tyres rated to suit. for example, my tyres are rated to 3500 for a pair but the rims are 2400 for the pair, thus my rear housing rating is 2400 (up from 2200). If i was to replace the rims i'd be able increase the rear to 2530kg to take advantage of the +15%.

For those considering engine conversion, there is a loop hole to get approval for a higher capacity engine. In this process of engineering i put the 130 on the weigh bridge and my Tare increased to 2740kg (lots of HD mods, long range tank, water tank and a steel tray). The Tare on my rego increased (at the disadvantage of paying more for my rego) but with the increase from 2050 to 2740, i qualify for a forced induction 6.0L GM engine. These were applying the National codes. Short lesson, if you are heavy and want a larger capacity engine, revise your Tare on your rego and you might jump up a category for approval.

What is the curb weight, 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 2.5 TDi (113 Hp)? 2055 kg 4530.5 lbs.

Interesting... that site says that the engine in a 300Tdi was a Diesel Common-rail engine... Somehow I don't think I would trust all the info listed there...

Spent half an hour in VicRoads earlier in the week.
The lady processing my de-registration and then transfer onto the Club Permit system was very helpful.
They only needed the Tare and she found it against my full registration listed as 1900kg
