Full Spec on Alpine Head Unit and Speakers - Mines Broken

Hi All,

I need to replace the head unit in my 2014 Puma - Bluetooth no longer works!

I have a few queries;

1. I can replace like for like - no problem there but I dont need a CD player so would look at a different (but name brand) unit as they are all retty cheap
2. Is there any point in spending too much on a better unit? I'll keep the existing speakers and won't install an amp
3. If I go for a head unit with DAB, do I need to install an antenna / receiver?

works fine. Best improvement I made for sound in my 130 was moving the rear speakers up to ear level.

Was the swap of the head unit a straight unplug / plug in? My head unit is from 2014 - apparently they have changed the plugs a little but I am yet to confirm if and from what to what.

Slightly convoluted answer...

I fitted an Alpine CDE-163 to my car, a MY10 110. To do that, I had to fit an ISO-to-Alpine adaptor lead, as the standard plug was ISO, and Alpine have their own plug convention.

If your car had a factory Alpine, I would guess that it has had "the change", and that there's a good chance another Alpine unit should be plug and play.

I went through a whole self inflicted drama with mine not long after I got the truck. The unit in the Pumas has special firmware that cannot be upgraded and different features such as Long wave radio that aren't applicable. Alpine Australia couldn't unblock it and ended up sending me a replacement service exchange unit at a reasonable price.If I was doing it again I'd just buy the latest compatible head unit

Plugs on the Alpine units should be the same so it should be plug and play (but make sure you check) My Bluetooth was always unreliable on the original unit which is why I attempted to upgrade it. The replacement one has been fine.

Mud do an adaptor to go from Defender to ISO:

The standard aerial works fine with DAB but you will need a splitter. I used this one:
