View Full Version : Ancillary drive idler pulley

I want to replace the idler pulley bearing on the ancillary drive belt, but the pulley itself has a bit of wear and replacing the bearing (6302LHA) would involve drilling out the 3 rivets that hold the 2 halves of the pulley together.
I don't want to wait for the mail from the UK and the price of around $200 for the assembly seems a bit rich when the mount casting looks fine. I have sourced a couple of part numbers for pulleys that are the right size and I wonder if anyone on here has used these. Part numbers are - Dayco 89502 or Nuline EP075. Both cost around the $50 mark and are available locally.
Any comments?

Thanks in advance.

You already done the pump and belts Dave ? , I couldn't find any cross reference for the dayco pulley
If the specs match it should be ok.

Hi Nick, I had to find a pulley by secifying the dimensions and then double checked with Dayco that their pulley would suit. The Dayco number 89502 is correct but the Nuline EP075 was wrong. I ended up using a pulley from Bearing Wholesalers, number TT13875, which matches the spec. and is readily available.
Taking a rest from working on the Disco today - the sweat fills up my glasses so I can't see properly.
Happy New Year!!

Thanks for the part numbers, on my list of replacements is a new idler pulley, starting to make a slight noise at 219000km.

Glad to be of use! Finding alternative ways of doing stuff and keeping the costs downis one of the strengths of sites like this.

Received an email today from Dayco. They advise that the pulley 89502 is not approved by Dayco for installation on a Discovery and would not be covered by warranty. The Dayco tech support told me that there is an overhang difference of 2mm and also there are too many possibilities of installation errors (overtorquing or mechanical damage of the casting). I have installed the pulley on my machine and first indications are ok, the belt appears to run ok on the pulley. If problems surface I will advise further.
I'll also post the list parts that Dayco recommends.

For those considering the use of Dayco products for the timing belts, here is the list provided a couple of days ago by their tech support people.
I have no connection to this company, just sharing the information as supplied.

Hey Nick, things are looking much better. Very little smoke, so I'm looking to book the RWC and sort rego. I'll probably have to buy a windscreen for the RWC :(

??

I read timing belt parts, saw a number and thought it was for the timing belt idlers, and said not to use the Dayco ones but get the NTN as they are made in Japan and are a better quality item.

But the part numbers didnt gel, so long winded...

Is the dayco water pump alright? Too late but I have ordered and sitting on my table now. While I’m at it, is it worth changing the thermostat?

I’ve ordered the belt tensioner and idler pulley from jlr uk.

I'm not having any problems so far with the parts that I fitted. I clocked up a couple of thousand km so far.
