Went to connect my GAP Tool in Instrument mode for a trip away but could only get voltage to display, but none of my usual engine readouts (turbo temps x 2), and temps for radiator engine oil and transmission. Engine ECU does not appear in the directories either.

Oh mother, what have I done?

I don’t think it’s picked up what car it is. Close the app and end it, then reconnect. Maybe also disconnect and reconnect the gap tool.

I’ve had it do it once.

Thanks, I've done that. It also shows the correct VIN.
But I'll try it yet again.

Might not be able to pick up the high speed CAN. Double and triple check the pins are all straight and clean and try reseating it. I’ve had the opposite where it couldn’t see the medium speed CAN before.

Been a while since I've used my gap tool. But I think you need to click 'show all ecu ' or something to that effect.

Culd the information in the bright red block have anything to do with it? First page of the manual.

Cheers

I have been known to leave it in overnight eg during recent 8 week trip to Sydney and back, but
1 - I religiously ensure it is turned fully off before leaving the car
2 - on this occasion it had been sitting unconnected in the car for a few weeks prior to the "non connect"

I'm also aware that others keep theirs permanently in their cars subject to 1 above with no problems.

Time to contact Patrick in Canada I think - I have checked the under bonnet fuses, and those in the top glovebox, and going to get one of my contortionist grandies to check the bottom in car fusebox.

Well, Patrick from GAP Tool very quickly sorted me out

"This is because the tool was not connected with engine running or ignition ON after being updated.

To avoid this, always connect the tool with either engine running or ignition ON.

To fix it,
-Start the car
-Connect the tool

-Menu--IIDTool Config--Find ECUs"

Only part he didn't add was after doing the above, disconnect, then reconnect and everything is back as it should be.

Always get prompt and usually easily understood responses from him - knows his product well!
