Who has an ARB winch bar with a winch fitted with synthetic rope?
I have the bar and I am looking at getting a winch with synthetic rope.
I have been told that I will need a spacer kit for the hawse fairlead. Looking at the bar this makes sense.
However looking at ARB fitting instructions, it looks like I need to also fit some spacers between the winch and the bull bar.

Rather than the ARB spacer kit, for not much more coin I could fit a Factor 55 thick hawse. I love Factor 55 stuff.
Factor 55 Fairlead 1.5" Thick (https://www.carbonoffroad.com.au/factor-55-fairlead-1.5-thick?gclid=CjwKCAjwzeqVBhAoEiwAOrEmzWKdHb2JjD6adO MuE_lL-UC-yA2ewn93zK-U7G2hdkVMcmUWrOVolxoCqfcQAvD_BwE)
Would this work instead of ARB kit?

I had an ARB winch bar fitted to my D2a.
No need for spacers But an offset fairlead is needed[thumbsupbig]

Can you explain what you mean by offset fairlead?

Thats the one[thumbsupbig]
The standard fairlead doesnt fit correctly (Not central on the opening) on the ARB bar as it allows the rope to chafe on the bar itself, The offset fairlead sorts this out[thumbsupbig]

So the winch will bolt directly to the bull bar and all I need extra is the offset fairlead, yes?

Was your bar an ARB?

Yes. Arb bar and a std footprint winch will bolt straight up with the offset hawse.
The bar is only rated for 9,500lb so no need to go higher.

Winches are rated at their highest rate of pull eg when pulling on the first wrap of rope..
If you are only using the fist 10 to 15m on a a 30m rope you wont have anywhere near the maximum rate available from the winch.
The 12000lb winch worked perfectly on my D2a and did NO damage whatsoever even with a double line pull [thumbsupbig]

When I was looking at the winch I wanted I rang ARB and asked if the 20,000 pound would fit. They said no only the 10,000.
After a bit of research it turns out the 10,000 and 12,000 are identical in size.
Turns out as tombie said, the bar is not rated to 12,000. I got a 12,000 anyway.
And even if you get a 10,000 and do a double line pull and if you were on the last row of the drum you effectively have a 20,000 pound pull.

The D2 weighs in at about 4500lb and the ARB bar is rated for 9500lb.
You will drag the D2 along the ground or lift it off the ground before you exceed the 9500lb rating [thumbsupbig]

Winching a D2 out of mud can easily need more than 9500lb of effort.

This is why we carry maxtrac's and learn how to use them [biggrin]
I fitted the 12000lb winch so that I didn't have to pull most of the rope of it to get enough "Grunt" to effect a recovery or pull out stumps etc.
Even pulling on the third layer gave me 8000lb of pull [thumbsupbig]
I find the biggest PITA ater using the winch is feeding the rope back onto it afterward, The less I had to do of this the better[thumbsupbig]
