FUEL FILTER LEAKAGE

Replaced the alternator today at 172,000 prior failure, although I think it was getting close to kaput because the voltage was fluctuating between 12.1 and 15.2 too often for peace of mind. It is a new battery and the BMS had been set.
I intended to do it anyway prior next year's mainland trip.

Bought it from TR Spares for $550 as I didn't want to purchase an expensive electrical item from the UK....... knowing my luck it will fail and the hassles of doing a warranty return to the UK makes me shudder.
I'll get my suspension and inlet manifolds from AF.

Replaced fuel filter.
For the life of me I couldn't get it to seal at the base where the water drain valve goes.
Lost a few litres fuel in the process and finally resorted to fitting a Coopers which I pinched from a friend.

That's the second BEARMACH filter to do that to me!
The depression at the base appears too deep.
Has anyone had a similar problem with the BEARMACH filter?

I'll use Genuine from now as they are not much more expensive anyway.

I removed the EVC I-Drive throttle controller as it is not required after the Old Jaguar ECU re-map.
Now to find someone to buy it. Well worthwhile if you are not contemplating an ECU Re-map.

Hadn't driven it for two weeks until I got the alternator; been using the 553,000 klms (very) agricultural Hilux 4WD, so I took it for a long run with a grin on my face.

For a D3 /D4 the only fuel filters that fit nicely without drama is the genuine Land Rover ones.
They are made by Baldwin / Fuel Manager in the U.S but can only be purchased as a genuine Land Rover item.

Other Land Rover models the Baldwin / Fuel Manager are available.

That's very interesting and good to know re Genuine being Baldwin.
Baldwin Filters are excellent.
We used to sell them at work and found their Aus people extremely good & helpful to deal with.
They seem to be seen as a poor relation to Fleetguard filters in the heavy vehicle industry, however they are every bit as good and often cheaper. They are a huge company in USA.

I agree with Daz - only use genuine but I currently have a Parker Brand in there in the moment which is made in the USA (only one I could get at the time - Parker or Bearmach). The Parker fixed leakage problems I have had with Cooper, Bearmach, westfil filters.

I use good aftermarket filters for everything in all my cars except for the fuel filter on the D3. I figured I could buy nearly 16 Land Rover branded fuel filters for one Siemens/VDO HPFP and I could change about 50 filters in the time it took to do the pump. Mann or Mahle everywhere else.

Just bought Ryco fuel filter from SCA for use on an old land cruiser diesel and an oil filter for an old BMW. Fit and finish were excellent on both although fingers crossed on the inside.

Fuel filter has a water sensor in the bottom and fit was perfect.

Ryco actually do a super handy full filter pack for popular big volume brand cars.

I actually thought their filters were made either in South Africa or Gyna but as said I really looked hard at them and there was nothing to criticise and the paint branding was excellent. Some filters look like they’ve been painted by kindy kids.

I’m starting to see Sakura filters popping up everywhere for popular Toyota- Subaru etc. brands as well think they might be lower down the totem pole.

In saying that I just add random filters to AF orders and stay OEM on the Disco.

I have learnt the hard way over the years,with filters.
I just use genuine,then there are no issues.

Usually a very similar price anyway.
Thats on the Discos,the Tojo's,etc.

Same for coolant,saves a huge flush,the worry of mixing two types,and the risk it doesn't really do the same job as genuine.

Oils,brake fluid,PS fluid,i use quality brands,but as per manufacturers spec.

Never had an issue.

Baldwin, Clarcor, Fuel Manager, Parker are all the same filter (all owned by Parker).
The variation is some models (as in Land Rovers) are only available in a particular brand.
