My 300k km d4 rotary knob gearbox selector does not rise when the ignition starts my car. I don't get any warning/alarm lights come on while the engine idles away nicely though the neutral light continues to flash for a minute or so.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? I'd be grateful for any thoughts on this matter.

Thanks Scary, in my case when nrma had a look they gave the rotary knob a good thump which then released it. It appears to be a common callout for them, their reasoning being the susceptibility to ingress of debris particles or spilt liquids around the gear selector knob causing it to stick a bit, probably increasing current draw to the servo(?) motor and subsequently bringing on a fault on the up/down circuit.
Thanks again.

When I spoke to my mechanic about this issue and whether any preventative maintenance should be done he said no, just keep doing what you do.
What I do I asked, yes he said , keep it clean and don't spill coffee or soft drink on it.
The only ones he has seen that fail are in cars that are filthy....
