On behalf of my brother, can anyone assist with body removal instructions for a MY08 RRS with the 3.6 TDV8 engine? Even instructions for a 2.7 TDV6 would be very helpful.

The RH exhaust manifold gasket is leaking significantly and it appears impossible to repair without removing the body.
Thanks.

I helped KLR do it quite some years ago but I didn’t see any instructions.

The front and rear bumpers were taken off, a lot of the electrics were on multi-pin plugs designed for this eventuality. Brake lines had to be disconnected.

It was a surprisingly quick job. I returned the following day to help put it back on but it was too late, the body was on.

I posted some pix on AULRO.

Thanks Ron. I suspect that it will be a slow job feeling his way although hopefully because the vehicles are designed to be split in this manner, there won't be too many nasties. My D4 was separated early in its life by the dealer and the only adverse affect was a loose steering column joint.

This is for the D3, but it should give you a general idea.

Thanks Brad. That should suffice, making him much more comfortable that something hasn't been missed.
The body removal section is missing from the copy of the WSM that I provided some time ago.
I've just realised that I didn't see if I could still get onto Topix to retrieve it.

The workshop manual available for download via AULRO somewhere is missing section 5 - Body and Paint.
Body removal is section 502.
I have a version that includes that section, though it says for the TDV6 I used it recently on my RRS TDV8.
The PDF is about 220MB if someone lets me know how to get it to you

Have you tried compressing the file to see how big it becomes. Assuming a PC....Right click on the file, "send to" Compressed (zipped) folder

thanx for suggestion however PDFs are pretty compressed already. Just in case I tried and it went all the way to 221MB. The AULRO file upload manager has a limit of about 9.5MB on PDFs

Just section 502 - Body Removal attached: 180519

All section 5 is 32MB, I don't know how to attach that.

Thanks PeterJJ and PerthDisco. I've forwarded the pdf and links to my brother.

He's a little annoyed that he struggled recently to replace the left inlet manifold before having found the source of the exhaust leak. He'll probably replace the other inlet manifold while the body is off.

I have the body off mine replacing the turbos at the moment. Inlet manifold and exhaust manifold seem good now. I am sure it will be otherwise 5 minutes after the body is back on :-)

Don’t forget vacuum pumps and other such impossible to access items if body off.

The car is running again, with only the a/c to be re-gassed.
