Transfer box guide pins/dowel bolts

Hi,
I'm about to pull out my transfer box on both discos and remember reading here about home made guide bolts. I've been searching to no avail, although I did read a bunch of interesting unrelated posts.

Could somebody help out and tell me what length/thread bolts to get so I can make these.

From memory they are M10 x 175 long. You need three bolts, preferably grade 12.9, and just cut the heads off then grind a small taper on the end. I will check mine tomorrow and confirm.

I checked and they are 175mm long x M10 x 1.5mm pitch grade 12.9 and should be available from any decent fastener supplier. I also cut a slot in the end for easy removal. .

These are the equivalent of special tool LRT-41-009 which is definitely for refitting LT230 to R380 gearbox. I would assume the same pins would be used for the LT230 to MT-82 gearbox but can't confirm. The protruding length of the studs has to to be the same or slightly longer than the gearbox output shaft but still leaving enough room behind the TC to get it up in place.

Higher grade bolts are probably a good idea, tho I think mine are just 8.8. I'd suggest getting a couple more bolts cos it's nice to be able to slide the T/C onto the guide bolts and then swap 2 out for bolts so there's less chance of dropping it on your face. Make sure you get the right length bolts and they're screwed in all the way because it's absolutely miserable for one to be too long. I ended up needing to screw one further in with a pair of vise grips.

I seem to remember when the studs (cut off bolts) were screwed in all the way as per rave illustrated locations, they were just longer than the R380 output shaft. The LT230 lip seal is slightly recessed so by the time you get it on the studs the seal is safe. I only had the three studs as guides and supported the weight of the LT230 on a trolley jack. Extra studs wouldn't hurt. You are right in that you don't want the studs too long otherwise you may foul a rear cross member or support panel.
