Hello All,
I walked in to the local bolt suppler and asked them if they could supply an M16 LEFT-HAND thread tap and two matching thread pitch high tensile bolts. They looked at me as if I was fitted with more than the standard number of heads. Then they abruptly said, "No way. Good luck trying to find any!"
I have since sent a series of emails to Australian nut and bolt suppliers to see if the items are available here in Australia.
Just in case I also searched for any overseas-based suppliers. The only difficulty finding overseas suppliers seems to be finding one mob that sells both the tap and the bolts. Plenty of business seem to sell one or the other.
I did not think that it would be so much of an effort to source such items! Hopefully the 14.5 mm diameter drill bit will be easier to buy!
Have you had similar issues buying left-hand thread taps and bolts?
Kind regards
Lionel

Lionel,
Is the bolt from a vehicle ?
When vehicles are mass produced the manufacturer can specify whatever they want, they are vehicle specific.
On the Isuzu in my SWB the flywheel bolts are HT M13 x 1.25 and shouldered, Isuzu is the only place you can buy them.
You say M16 but what pitch ?
Plenty of taps on Ebay but as you were told 'best of luck trying to find bolts'.

These are one of the few things I would buy off eBay; I just typed 'M16 left tap' into eBay and came up with a number of options, followed by 'M16 left bolt' and again numerous options. Just avoid the chinese sewerage outlets; if the seller's 'other items' include totally unrelated crap, avoid them, whereas sellers who specialise in industrial supplies are usually ok.

Hi Lionel,
x2 for the Flea Bay.
If you are after a specific bolt size and tensile strength (as opposed to a machine screw) you might be better getting a die as well, buying a longer RH bolt and threading that.
I've had similar problems with BSF.
Cheers Glen

Best of luck running an Ebay die down a HT bolt.

A nut and bolt shop isn’t the best place to start….
Try these guys in Brendale (Brisbane) , I used to buy a bit off gear off them, taps, dies, cutter, measuring equipment.

I used Tracy Tools regularly when I lived in the UK.
They used to have a lot of NOS taps & dies, I still have a BA set I purchased from them with taps down to 11BA plus BScy & BSF.

Why do you want the left hand thread bolts anyway ?
Btw its just as easy to make left hand threads on a lathe as it is right hand threads, Any machine shop can make any bolt any size any pitch.
