Has this been covered? Couldn't find it in a search.
I have just bought a 2009 D4 3.0 tdi with air suspension and the right rear shock absorber isn't working. Do I have to buy a whole new unit or can I just replace the shocker? Should I do the lot at the same time?
Regards, Erik

You can do the shock alone, but the complete strut is easier and probably cheaper.
What do you mean it doesn't work

At over 100km/hr, when going over bumps, it drifts off to the right. This is a little disconcerting when I get up to overtaking speed on our rain affected country NSW roads...

So am I looking at $600 per corner?

Source from the UK. Even with freight less than that.. about $500 per corner max

I would do both rears as you are probably getting up there in mileage, as above buy then from one of the many UK suppliers.

They are likely cheap junk, stick with OEM which is BWI.

Going cheap parts on a LR is a recipe for unplanned breakdowns at inopportune times.

I fitted those cheap ones to my D4 a couple of months ago.
I was doing a round WA trip and my front shocks started leaking. Both of them. The oil from the shocks ruined the air bag seals and I ended up sitting in Carnarvon for 8 days while I waited for delivery from Melbourne. Thanks for that AusPost!
The reason I bought the cheapies was so I could get them delivered quicker than from England???
Also, the ones I'd fitted 50,000kms previously were from England and BWI, so I wouldn't put them up on too much of a pedestal!
The cheapies looked to be as well built as the ones I took off, and have worked perfectly for the last 5-6,000kms.
Time will tell.

Trevor

You could try LAP solutions of Ringwood, Vic. I've had good parts at good prices in the past.

Thanks for that report Trevor. As always, there are mixed reports. It's helpful to know that those ones at least seem to be solid enough.

Yeah. My BWI didn't last too long before the fade.
I'm building Bilstein next. I'm hoping there not yellow, but whatever. I'm thinking genuine bags on the top

I too am keen to see how the bilstein / new bags option goes as I'm getting close to replacement time as well.
Cheers
