One for the brains trust.
My Disco 4 has a trailer switch in the back, it was already installed when I bought the car, in theory turn it on and the car sensors a trailer, as in light on dash and rear sensors turned off plus any changes to trailer control or any other electrical wizardry.
If the switch is off there is no trailer light on the dash and van lights don't play by the rules
If the switch is on the trailer light is on the dash and van lights works as they should BUT the rear parking sensors stay on which is really annoying when trying to concentrate on reversing the van into a tight spot with vague guidance from the cook
How do I get the rear sensors off without cracking the ..... and cutting the wires

Your right, they should be off when it sees a trailer is there.

There is a switch just above the drivers side temp control to turn them off. I find the front sensors are a nuisance and pick up all sorts of things when in tight situations.

I have tried that one, seems to turn the front off and the screen back to normal display but the switch will not turn off the rear sensor alarm

Only some models get the parking switch so that’s not always an option for people

Strange behaviour for a D4 - without any aftermarket changes, plugging any trailer in should make the trailer lights work correctly. For LED trailers, the car just doesn't show the trailer icon on the dash, and the reverse beepers stay on.

Assuming you have the same type of switch I do, it is intended to fool the car into thinking a trailer with incandescent light bulbs is attached. Trailer light on the dash, no reverse beeper, and I believe a change to the transmission shift points / behaviour.

What are the trailer lights doing when the trailer is plugged in, but the switch is off? What type of lights does the trailer have? (LED or Incandescent?)

The van does have LED, cant remember exactly what the lights were doing when the switch is off, haven't tried it for a long time but it definitely makes a difference as the lights work correctly with the switch on and don't with switch off.
The switch does everything it should except turn off the reverse sensors

Which lights work correctly? (What are you referring to, the dash light?)

Have you traced where the unit is the switch is connected to? What brand is it?

All lights work, dash and tail lights, brake lights, indicators and reverse.

No haven't pulled anything to bits because I have just lived with it but was hoping someone had seen the issue before

See the thing is the switch is there just to fool the car into thinking (knowing) the trailer is attached. The computer system then turns on the dash light, disables beepers, changes transmission etc. The switch doesn't cut power to the beepers or anything like that.

Hence my comment about it being weird - the computer knows to turn the dash light on, but not disable the beepers. Kinda half pregnant there...

Have you got an IID tool to change the CCF files?

You could always try resetting the whole car, by removing both battery cables and touching them together...

Do the rear fog lights on the D4 still work when the switch is on?
