Can any skilled person advise me how to repair this following problem.
My concern is my LR3 Diesel Auto no longer allows the change from Auto Drive to Sports (manual) change. The vehicle drives superbly in Automatic mode but now, does not allows the selection to sports/manual mode via the gear change selector.
The gearbox was completely refurbished nearly 30,000 kms back at a costly sum, I’m considering the outer mechanism (s) were not changed as they were not defaulting.
My closest Experienced gearbox repairer is 3 hours drive from me, hence my call for assistance etc. TIA.

FYI, LR3 is the designation used in North America. For the rest of the world it's Discovery 3, Disco 3, or D3. We can't have those pesky Yanks changing everything!

Technically you are right, but perhaps a tad pedantic towards someone genuinely looking for answers?

If this problem has existed since the gearbox was overhauled then perhaps the selector cable might not have been correctly adjusted when the gearbox was refitted. Otherwise the gear selector module may have developed a fault.

This issue is likely caused by a fault in the gear shifter , there is a PCB on the side of it that controls sports mode and command shift.
In my case my console got drowned in a summer downpour and the PCB was fried, I had to replace the whole shifter and a short wiring harness that connects to it.

You're right - it was a bit brusque. I've edited my post. Hopefully it's a bit more betterer.

Shack, thank you for your interest, when changing to sports mode, being stationary or underway, nothing happens apart from the position of the gear stick, the vehicle remains in auto mode and transmission fault remains on Dash board. Drives all good but does not change. Any help appreciated.

Micro switch under the gearstick cover?

I don't think you mentioned that previously. That'd do it. Need to get codes out to see what it thinks the fault is.

Thank you to all who have responded with your advice, I think I’ll have to bite the bullet, spend some $$$$$ and take the vehicle to a specialist in Brisbane.. As stated, I live 3 hours north, so I’ll enjoy the drive. Thank you ..

When there is a transmission fault ( for whatever reason) often all the features that you mention don't work will most likely be disabled.... However, SOMETIMES when there is a transmission fault, the only way you CAN change gear is in manual mode!!
Which of course in the process makes it a true land Rover through and through.
Cheers

Micro switch under the gearstick cover? There isn't one, must use a hall effect type gizmo as there are no connections between the shifter and it's PCB.
Other possibility is the slider on the mechatronic unit isn't engaged with a rod of the shifter linkage but I'd expect more problems than what is occurring.
