The TV has twin USB ports but will only supply .5A each...
I was pretty sure that the SSD would not draw that much---
but while the TV recognizes it correctly it wont run it..
I can buy a USB splitter that has two male ends and one female socket--
will that provide 1amp?
funnily enough the exact same TV in the bedroom runs an external 3.5HDD....

Either a splitter or externally powered hub

So I borrowed a powered hub and it just says theres an "issue" with the SSD... but it also says theres an issue with the old 3.5HDD.. so maybe the new TV doesnt like 2TB drives???
What century is this again??:bat:

A lot of tellies require old scool FAT32 disk partition format, which is very inefficient on high capacity drives. Perhaps switching to thumb drives or casting using something like a google chromecast would be an alternative solution?

... windows doesnt have fat32 anymore..
This is only because the drives you have attempted with must have been greater than 32Gb in size.
The option is still there once you get a drive 32Gb or less.
The way it(windows formatting) works is that the option allowed, depends on the size of the drive inputted.
So if you have a 2GB or less(maybe 4Gb) storage of some type, you see the FAT option too.
